GENERAL SUMMARY
The Infection Control Clinical Analyst supports the prevention of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) through surveillance, data collection, investigation, and reporting of infections. Utilizes methods to assess, plan, implement and evaluate infection prevention processes across the organization. Serves as liaison between clinical nursing and the Infection Control Department. Uses clinical knowledge of epidemiology to support Infection Prevention initiatives. Monitors compliance with infection control standards and regulations to ensure organizational compliance under the leadership of the Director of Infection Prevention (IP).

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assists managers and staff in implementing, monitoring and evaluating infection control processes and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Demonstrates clinical competence in areas of applied knowledge/skills/standards/clinical decision making as appropriate for the patient population.
• Ensures infection control practices meet safety/risk management requirements.
• Actively prepares for and participates in regulatory survey activities (i.e. DNV, IDPH, OSHA).
• Robustly participates in developing and implementing Infection Control performance improvement initiatives
• Collaborates with IP on department staffing needs
• Enhances professional growth by continuing education and involvement in professional organizations.
• Facilitates interdepartmental communication within all GAHHS departments
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, managers and peers.
• Demonstrates advanced level problem solving skills and decision making abilities.
• Participates in overall strategic planning in concert with the GAHHS mission and strategic goals.
• Participates in research as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to make independent decisions, ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and general public.
2. Visual/auditory acuity to assess patients, evaluate assessment data and apply manual/automated tools to collate information.
3. Manual dexterity and physical strength to ambulate to nursing units, patient rooms and ancillary departments.
4. Communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
5. Emotional stability conductive to deal with demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians and other healthcare workers.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Qualifications
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
• Prefer Registered Nurse with a minimum of three years recent acute care experience
• Ability to apply evidence based practice guidelines and use of effective infection prevention strategies
• Experience or knowledge in use of epidemiologic principles and infectious disease processes
• Knowledge of sterilization, sanitation and disinfection practices
• Basic understanding of statistics and epidemiologic investigation
• Proficiency with utilizing digital tools and web based applications
INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category 1 – Maximal Risk - This job often involves contact with patient or patient specimens. Exposure to blood, body fluids and tissue is possible. The Hepatitis B vaccine shall be made available.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Works in an office where there are relatively few contacts due to dust or dirt. There is some exposure to print noises.
2. May work in an office with a co-worker; the potential for personal harm or injury is limited when proper safety precautions are taken.
3. May be exposed to contagious diseases or infectious materials, but potential for personal harm and injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions and equipment are used.
