GENERAL SUMMARY
The Nursing Assistant is a non-professional staff member who provides, to patients, personal care and assistance to re-establish ADL (activities of daily living) under supervision of the Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse. This care is provided in accordance with a plan of care that is prescribed by the physician, and written by the Registered Nurse.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Collects data regarding patient care needs and response to nursing care provided.
2. Reviews the care plan with the RN/LPN and identifies potential changes.
3. Evaluates the effectiveness of care provided and reports to the primary RN/LPN.
4. Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills.
5. Implements appropriate measures to meet the patient/SO learning needs.
6. Performs documentation duties in the patient record which is timely, accurate and concise.
7. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patients/SO rights, as identified by the Patient Bill of Rights
8. Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified institution.
9. Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
10. Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care and decision making for designated patient population.
11. Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own skills and actions within scope of hospital policies and procedures.
12. Participates actively in staff development and orientation activities for the unit.
13. Demonstrates self-directed learning and participation of continuing education to meet own development needs.
14. Seeks validation of knowledge base and skill level and assertively seeks guidance in areas of question.
15. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects if patient care and unit functions and strives to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.
16. Participates in development and attainment of unit and division of nursing goals.
17. Participates in unit and division of nursing PI activities.
18. Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately.
19. Uses effective working relationships with all health care team members,patients/SO and staff.
20. Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts; participates in temporary assignment measures of division of nursing.
Qualifications
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks:
• Floor to waist - 40 pounds
• 14” to waist - 50 pounds
• Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds
• Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds
• Carry 40 pounds 30 feet
• Push 40 pounds/force 30 feet
• Pull 40 pounds/force 10 feet
• Carry 20 pounds away from body 30 feet
2. Keen mental faculties to observe patient status change.
3. Communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
4. Emotional stability conductive to dealing with a high stress level for 8-12 hours at a time associated with caring for acute patients/SO, fast paced physical activity, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and their families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physician, and other health care workers.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Medical/Surgery Director.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant, as Verified through the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry for CNA position.
2. BLS on Hire.
INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category I – Maximal Risk – this job exposes you to potential blood, body fluids and tissues on a routine basis. It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis B vaccine.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Works in patient care areas where there are few discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise and the like.
2. Works with patients and may be exposed to contagious diseases or infectious materials, but potential for personal harm and injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions and equipment are used.
Salary : $17 - $25
