GENERAL SUMMARY
The CNA/Receptionist performs clerical duties of the nursing unit; facilitates good communications through proper handling of information, inquiries and requests given or received by phone or in person; maintains a neat, well organized nursing station; and assists with certain areas of patient care as directed.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Collects information regarding unit needs and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
2. Complete requisitions for treatment, test, procedures, and equipment. Notifies appropriate nursing staff changes in orders which require immediate attention.
3. Implements appropriate measures to meet the patient/family learning needs.
4. Performs documentation duties in the patient record which is timely, accurate and concise. Transcribes orders correctly, accurately.
5. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient’s rights, as identified by Bill of Rights.
6. Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.
7. Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
8. Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care and decision making for care and decision making for designated patient populations.
9. Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own practice.
10. Participates actively in staff development activities for unit.
11. Demonstrates self-directed learning and participation of continuing education to meet own development needs.
12. Seeks validation of knowledge base and skill level and assertively seeks guidance in areas of question.
13. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit functions and strives to manage situations on a reduced risk manner.
14. Participates in development and attainment of unit and Division of Nursing goals.
15. Participates in unit and Division of Nursing Performance Improvement.
16. Demonstrates effective communication methods and skills, using lines of authority appropriately.
17. Uses effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients/SO and hospital staff.
18. Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts; participates in temporary assignment measures of Division of Nursing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Emotional stability conductive to dealing with a high stress level for 8-12 hours at a time associated with caring for acute patients
2. Fast paced physical activity, rapidly changing patient conditions.
3. Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks:
• Floor to waist - 40 pounds
• 14” to waist - 50 pounds
• Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds
• Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds
• Carry 40 pounds 30 feet
• Push 40 pounds/force 30 feet
• Pull 40 pounds/force 10 feet
• Carry 20 pounds away from body 30 feet
4. Emotional demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the unit Manager.
Qualifications
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Telemetry Certification
2. Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant, as verified through the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry
3. BLS on hire
INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category 1 – Maximal Risk - This job usually involves contact with patient or patient specimens. Exposure to blood, body fluids and tissue is possible. The Hepatitis B vaccine shall be made available.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Works in patient care areas where there are few discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise and the like.
2. Works with patients and may be exposed to contagious diseases or infectious materials, but potential for personal harm and injury is limited when proper safety and health precautions and equipment are used.
3. Time constraints are a source of pressure due to required turn-around time monitoring.
