What are the responsibilities and job description for the VALET DRIVER - PRN position at Gibson Area Hospital?
GENERAL SUMMARY
Valet driver will operate the Courtesy Cart in response to non-emergency requests for transportation of visitors and patients to/from GAHHS campus parking areas to/from GAHHS facilities. Protects patient safety by obeying traffic laws, properly securing passengers, and being aware of maintenance needs of the vehicle.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drives Courtesy Cart at a speed necessary to arrive at destination timely and safely in response to requests for non-emergency service.
- Completes paperwork necessary for rides offered/declined, weather and other stat reporting as needed on a per shift basis.
- Provides enjoyable, safe and effective non-emergency transport of patients and visitors to all on-campus GAHHS facilities. (Main Hospital, Dr’s Park, Annex, Parking Lots)
- Serves as an ambassador for GAHHS by presenting a positive attitude during all customer related services.
- Offers rides to any vehicle parking lot on campus. Patients have the right to accept or decline a ride. Surgery patients will usually have a care-giver accompanying them. Surgery patients will be in the care of the post-surgery nurse providing transportation via wheelchair to vehicle and should not be transported via Courtesy Cart.
- Cleans Courtesy Cart interior and performs routine preventive maintenance checks. Notifies Director of necessary repairs.
- Keeps work areas neat, clean, and orderly.
- Participates in educational programs and integrates learning into job role.
- Completes specific job competencies for continued employment.
- Completes organizational recertification requirements annually.
- Performs additional duties as requested.
- Meets scheduled attendance and on-call requirements as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work requires the ability to perform the following lifting tasks:
- Floor to waist – 20 pounds
- Waist to shoulder – 10 pounds
- Shoulder to overhead – 10 pounds
- Carry 20 pounds for 30 feet
- Push 40 pounds/force for 15 feet
- Pull 40 pounds/force for 15 feet
- Work requires the ability to carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds on a daily basis.
- Work requires the ability to stand to 2 hours at a time on a daily basis.
- Work requires the ability to reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity, ability to crawl and maneuver in confined spaces and ability to communicate with others and color vision. Work requires sufficient auditory and visual acuity to interact with and/or care for others.
- Work requires ability to push, pull and/or lift wheelchairs occupied by patients on a daily basis.
- Work requires ability to lift and position patients on a daily basis.
- Work requires proofreading and checking documents for accuracy on a daily basis.
- Work requires ability to ascend and descend ramps on a daily basis.
- Work requires ability to maintain balance (body equilibrium) to prevent falling when walking on narrow or uneven surfaces.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Director of Employee and Community Events
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Work requires valid Illinois Class C driver’s license or ability to obtain such a license prior to the completion of orientation. Must be at least 21 years old and have a safe driving record in order to be insured by carrier.
- Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to comfort patients, family members and/or significant others and to communicate effectively and concisely with other patient care providers.
INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category I – Maximal Risk - This job usually involves contact with patient or patient specimens. Exposure to blood, body fluids and tissue is possible. The Hepatitis B vaccine shall be made available.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work may require exposure to extremes in temperature when transporting patients to and from various destinations. Will not be expected to work when outside temperature is below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
