Social Worker - Gibson County Public Defender’s Office
The Gibson County Public Defender’s Office seeks a full-time social worker to act as a parent system navigator for cases involving children in need of services (CHINS). This is a pilot program and initial duties will include launching the program.
Job Duties:
-Work directly with CHINS parents and assist them in making appointments, understanding the goals of the CHINS case, and making a plan with them to achieve these goals
-Effectively navigate parents through the entire CHINS and termination system
-Attend CHINS court hearings
-Testify at court hearings
-Attend family team meetings
-Communicate with attorneys, DCS, and service providers
-Provide investigative and mitigation support to attorneys
-Gather and compile information needed for CHINS court hearings
-Closely supervise CHINS parents, and review discovery and pleadings on their cases
-Gather and report CHINS data via Excel
Job Requirements:
-Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree; or
Associate degree with a minimum of two years of human services job experience; or
Completion of 30 college credit hours from an accredited institution with a minimum of four years of human services job experience; or
A minimum of at least five years of human services job experience
-Computer proficient with the ability to use Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word and SharePoint
-Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision, often under time pressure
-Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other county departments, DCS, CASA, court personnel, other county/state agencies, attorneys, clients, service providers and the public in a courteous and tactful manner, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities
-Willing to attend family team meetings and meet with clients outside of normal work hours
-Compose notes to document contact with clients, family members, other relevant persons, and other case activities, enter information into case management system, and update individual files for each client as required
-Extremely organized
-Self-motivated and willing to act as an advocate for parents
Hours: Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. with some evenings or possibly weekends
Salary: $50,000 per year.

- Health insurance: Medical, Prescription, Dental and Vision Insurance at a biweekly cost of $21.40 per employee. Spouse and Dependents at no additional cost. Begins ninth week of employment.
