Job Overview: As a Teaching Assistant, you will work directly with neurodiverse individuals in our classroom and community-based learning environments. You’ll support the day-to-day classroom functions, assist to develop and implement the current curriculum, assist in the development of social and communication skills of students, and help our students navigate real-world situations in a supportive and structured way.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the teacher and team in implementing individualized learning based on student goals.
- Assist students during community outings and activities, promoting social skills, communication, and adaptive behaviors.
- Provide direct support to our students in a variety of settings, including group activities, community centers, parks, and other public spaces.
- Observe and track student progress, providing feedback and adjustments as needed to ensure each student’s growth and success.
- Encourage and reinforce positive behaviors, building a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with parents and caregivers
- Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with individuals with physical, mental and/or developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Patience, empathy, and flexibility to adapt to the needs of children in various community settings.
- NYS drivers license
- Ability to be CPR certified
- Previous experience teaching or in a instructor led environment a plus
- Previous supervisory experience a plus
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in education, special education, psychology, or related field is a plus.
