Position Summary:
The Director of Pharmacy, GLP-1, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of pharmacy operations related to GLP-1 medications. This includes ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations, optimizing workflow efficiencies, managing inventory and logistics, and leading a team of pharmacists, technicians, and support staff. The role requires strategic leadership to drive innovation, enhance operational performance, and ensure high-quality patient care in dispensing GLP-1 medications.
Key Responsibilities:Pharmacy Operations & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with state and federal regulations, including DSCSA, FDA, DEA, and Board of Pharmacy requirements.
- Develop and implement SOPs for the GLP-1 program, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and operational efficiency.
- Monitor all aspects of prescription fulfillment, including intake, verification, dispensing, and shipping processes, ensuring accuracy and safety.
- Collaborate with the Quality and Compliance teams to ensure adherence to best practices in pharmacy operations.
Strategic Leadership & Team Management
- Provide leadership and oversight to pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy support staff in the GLP-1 division.
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to optimize efficiency, improve workflow, and enhance patient experience.
- Work closely with other departments, including Customer Success, Engineering, and Supply Chain, to ensure seamless operations.
- Recruit, train, mentor, and develop pharmacy staff to support growth and continuous improvement.
Inventory & Logistics
- Oversee inventory management and cold chain logistics to ensure the proper storage, handling, and distribution of GLP-1 medications.
- Collaborate with the inventory team to maintain appropriate inventory levels and prevent shortages or overstocking.
- Ensure compliance with temperature-sensitive storage and shipping protocols for GLP-1 medications.
Technology & Automation
- Work with engineering and IT teams to enhance automation and integration within pharmacy systems, including BestRx and order management platforms.
- Identify and implement technology solutions to streamline prescription processing, improve accuracy, and reduce manual workload.
- Support the implementation of AI and automation strategies to optimize pharmacy operations.
Patient Experience & Support
- Ensure an exceptional patient experience by developing efficient processes for prescription fulfillment and communication.
- Oversee the resolution of escalated patient and provider issues related to GLP-1 prescriptions.
- Collaborate with marketing and customer service teams to enhance patient education and engagement.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree required.
- Active pharmacist license in Ohio or ability to obtain licensure.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of pharmacy management experience, with a strong preference for experience in specialty medications or GLP-1s.
- Extensive knowledge of pharmacy regulations, compliance, and industry best practices.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and develop high-performing teams.
- Experience working with pharmacy technology platforms (e.g., BestRx, EHR systems, AI-driven automation).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on operational efficiency and innovation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders.Cold chain experience, including temperature mapping and monitoring.
- Familiarity with URAC accreditation standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address temperature excursions, packaging failures, or compliance risks.
- Experience with vendor management for cold chain logistics, packaging materials, and compliance reporting.
- Regulatory Compliance: Expertise in USP <659>, <661>, <1079>, <1079.2-4>, <1118>, and <800> to ensure proper packaging, storage, and shipping of temperature-sensitive medications.
- Cold Chain Management: Proven experience in temperature-controlled logistics, including validation of storage areas, shipment monitoring, and handling temperature excursions.
- Pharmacy Operations: Strong background in mail-order pharmacy workflows, automation, and compliance with FDA, DEA, and state pharmacy board regulations.
- Technology & Monitoring: Proficiency in pharmacy management systems (e.g., BestRx) and shipping platforms (UPS, FedEx, USPS), with experience using temperature data loggers.
- Leadership & Strategy: Ability to lead teams, implement efficiency-driven solutions, and ensure adherence to Good Distribution Practices (GDP) for high-volume prescription fulfillment.
