General Description:
The Inpatient Services Director is a registered professional nurse who is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating the processes for patient care activities, and for providing safe, prudent and economical nursing care according to regulatory standards. S/he coordinates all patient care activities on the Medical Surgical, Observation, MATCH and Special Care Unit, manages the department caregivers, and serves as a member of the leadership team.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitates patient care services, and develops and implements policies and procedures, ensuring safe and efficient care. Participates in Quality Improvement activities.
- Functions as a member of the management team; participates in the planning and development of hospital policies and procedures.
- Serves as a liaison between the nursing staff (to include the Medical Director). Collaborates with medical staff to best use limited resources and to ensure the best patient care. Fosters physician satisfaction.
- Maintains strong interdepartmental relationships in order to collaboratively achieve positive outcomes in providing excellent patient care.
- Provides orientation and ongoing education, and serves as a resource, to ensure competency of nursing staff.
- Analyzes and reports on the quality of patient care according to regulatory agencies, such as JCAHO, CMS and GRMC Peer Review.
- Prepares and manages the department operational and capital budgets.
- Manages department staff, including scheduling, payroll, hiring, evaluation, discipline, recognition, and conflict resolution, according to Human Resources policies.
- Conducts staff meetings.
- Investigates errors and complaints.
- Conducts documentation reviews.
- Functions as a Registered Nurse, providing direct patient care, as needed.
- Participates in PMSC Process.
- Participates in leadership development to further explore leadership level understanding of GRMC’s values, culture and ability to meet organizational goals.
- Regularly attends Medicine Department meeting and Perinatal Department meeting.
Education & Training Requirements:
- Current New Mexico or multi-state RN license
- AHA – BLS required
- American Heart Association ACLS required
- American Heart Association PALS within 6 months of hire or first available course
- NRP within 6 months of hire or first available course
- STABLE within 6 months of hire or first available course
- FHM within one year of hire
- FCCS within one year or first available course
- BSN or bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field, or currently pursuing
- 5 years nursing experience in acute care, MATCH, ICU and Med Surg experience preferred
