POLYSOMNOGRAPHIC TECHNOLOGIST (PRN)

General Description : The Polysomnographic Tech is responsible for the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. S / he performs sleep studies, and provides diagnostic and therapeutic services, patient care and education.Essential Functions :

• Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
• Determines final testing parameters and procedures in collaboration with the ordering physician, clinical director and laboratory protocols.
• Completes and verifies documentation.
• Explains testing procedures to the patient. Responds to inquiries with appropriate information.
• Prepares, calibrates, cleans and maintains testing equipment.
• Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.
• Performs positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fittings.
• Performs polysomnographic testing, monitoring, therapeutic interventions and documentation, following procedural protocols.
• Scores sleep / wake stages and clinical events, and generates reports, by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
• Complies with laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control.
• Evaluates sleep study related equipment and inventory.
• Maintains quality assurance logs, charting and statistical database for sleep center accreditation.
• Provides sleep center computer system training to physicians and staff.Education and Training Requirements :
• Registered Polysomnographic Technologist;
• Or New Mexico Registered (or Certified) Respiratory Therapist who has successfully completed a Polysomnographic Program accredited by CAAHEP
