Position Summary: Assists physicians and other healthcare providers by conducting preliminary patient evaluations. Serves as a lead resource for other medical assistants and assigns routine duties to medical assistants to ensure operational efficiency within the clinic. Performs basic maintenance and operations duties such as stocking and sterilizing examination rooms and taking inventory for medical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
Critical Tasks:
- Provides clinical oversight, guidance and support to assigned staff using a strength based approach
- Conducts preliminary patient evaluations to gather appropriate data and support the relevant provider.
- Prepares the examination room for patients and providers by organizing medical instruments and equipment, replacing examination paper and other disposable supplies, and cleaning and sanitizing all fixtures, instruments, and equipment.
- Performs laboratory draws and other basic tests and prepares samples for processing by the laboratory.
- Serves as a lead resource for other medical staff.
- Assigns routine duties to medical assistants to guarantee all tasks are completed.
- Assists in the evaluation of job performance for all medical assistants and students.
- Develops and maintains the clinic specific Medical Assistant Operations Manual to provide medical assistants with relevant workplace information.
- Performs basic maintenance and operations duties such as stocking rooms and taking inventory for medical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Works in the front-office during staffing shortages.
- Assists in the coordination of patient transportation between healthcare facilities by providing patient information and authorizations to the receiving facility.
- Reports problems or issues beyond scope of practice to other healthcare professionals or management as needed.
- Performs other job-related activities as requested.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 3 years experience in patient care required
- Current and valid Medical Assistant Certificate from an approved and accredited program.
- Current and continuing BLS training and certifications.
- Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
