What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Clerk-HHK-Sacaton position at Gila River Health Care?
Position Summary: Schedules and monitors non-emergency medical transportation for individual patients by providing clerical/administrative support and efficient access to transportation services.
Critical Tasks:
- Maintains ongoing and accurate knowledge of vehicle/staff availability as well as patient and facility locations.
- Creates and documents referrals and purchase orders for medical transportation billing purposes.
- Updates addresses of patients, providers and medical facilities on an accurate and timely basis.
- Maintains and updates patient data files to ensure high quality service with transportation staff understanding of each patient’s conditions and needs.
- Takes all steps necessary to ensure dependable and reliable services to all patients.
- Remains highly organized in all work activities to ensure that patient needs are met or exceeded.
- Communicates regularly by telephone, particularly with patients, while understanding clear mutual understand and acceptance of services to be provided to patients.
- Assigns drivers based largely upon experience, capability, time, location, and duration of assignments.
- When necessary, assigns patients to other transportation providers when patient circumstances necessitate such services.
- Manages and responds to electronic transportation requests on a timely basis to ensure full coordination of all transportation services.
- Explains enterprise medical transportation policies and limitations to patients and/or guardians when necessary.
- Checks and confirms every patient’s current eligibility for transportation services under the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCS).
- Communicates with external transportation vendors to ensure proper service to patients as well as internal coordination of efforts.
- Responds to occurrences such as breakdowns and traffic accidents in a manner that reduces or eliminates patient schedule interruptions.
- When necessary, assists walk-up patients with their medical transportation needs per enterprise policy.
- Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
- Demonstrates ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, while performing all essential functions.
- Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma.
- Detailed knowledge of transportation routes in Southern Maricopa and northern Pinal County.
- 1-4 years of experience in a direct customer service role, preferably including with Native American customers.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures.
- Interest in medical subjects, patient services/care, and customer service. Prior medical environment work experience preferred.
