DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Computer Lab Specialist is responsible for providing technology training, education, and expanded technology instruction for Community members to utilize at home. The Computer Lab Specialist provides extended lab hours for student academic engagement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Manage the day-to-day operations of the Computer Technology Center (CTC) lab, which includes scheduling and conducting instructional classes, providing assistance to individuals needing lab assistance, physical lab setup, daily routines, student discipline, and maintaining daily attendance logs.
· Facilitate vocational workshops, and other instructional services for computer based and Internet-based learning programs; direct and instruct a variety of computer software, basic computer skills, and instruction in using technology-based programs; assist employees in specialized training.
· Communicate with Gila River Tribal Departments, Agencies, and other when necessary to provide resources and education (i.e. Schools, Employment & Training, etc.,)
· Assist participants with employment applications, job resumes, and career development utilizing various computer software.
· Provide monthly reports of activities and participation in CTC Lab activities.
· Analyze, assess, and interpret areas of strengths and weaknesses of participants to develop lessons, and instructional material that will provide individualized or small group instruction to meet the needs of the community.
· Determine a student’s readiness to take and pass the official General Education Diploma (GED) test; administer official GED Practice Tests to evaluate an individual’s readiness to take the full-length GED tests.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY:
· Knowledge of computers and current computer software (e.g. Microsoft Office).
· Knowledge in planning and developing programs to suit a variety of students.
· Knowledge of career development issues and employment opportunities/applications.
· Knowledge of Native American traditions and cultures.
· Knowledge of basic technology and equipment troubleshooting.
· Ability to troubleshoot and resolve both software and hardware technical problems.
· Ability to learn and adapt to new software and equipment technologies.
· Ability to prepare required records and reports.
· Ability to relate and counsel Native American students for behavioral and academic problems.
· Ability to maintain documentation and case notes on all students
· Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the public.
· Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Education or a closely related field and two (2) years’ experience in a computer lab providing assistance on common computer technologies, devices, or software; OR
· Certificate (25 college credit hours) from an accredited college or university in Computer Programming,
Desktop Support or a closely related certificate and three (3) years’ experience in a computer lab providing assistance on common computer technologies, devices, or software.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Required to a pass background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must continue to maintain throughout duration of employment. Background checks are required for positions that involve regular contact with or control over Community Children in accordance with The Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 U.S.C. Sections 3201 through 3210 and C.F.R. Part 63 and positions that have regular contact with the Elderly.
· Required to obtain a Tribal Operator’s permit. Valid state driver’s license with proof of driving record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the application.
