Position Summary:

The Assistant Superintendent of Water Treatment and Lift Station Construction is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of water treatment facilities and lift station construction projects. This role supports the planning, execution, and management of construction projects related to water treatment infrastructure, ensuring compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and project timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Oversight:
    • Assist in the coordination and management of water treatment and lift station construction projects from inception to completion.
    • Monitor and track project progress, ensuring adherence to schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
    • Supervise construction crews, subcontractors, and vendors on job sites, ensuring work is performed according to project specifications.
    • Collaborate with the Superintendent to ensure the safe and efficient execution of water treatment facility construction and lift station installations.
  2. Safety Compliance:
    • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Conduct safety inspections, risk assessments, and ensure that all construction activities comply with OSHA and other regulatory standards.
    • Address any safety concerns promptly and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  3. Technical Support:
    • Provide technical assistance to the construction teams, including guidance on water treatment processes, lift station systems, and related equipment.
    • Review blueprints, schematics, and project documents to ensure construction follows engineering and design specifications.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the construction and operation of water treatment systems and lift stations.
  4. Team Leadership:
    • Supervise and train construction personnel, ensuring that workers are equipped with necessary skills and knowledge to perform their tasks efficiently and safely.
    • Assign daily tasks and ensure workforce productivity.
    • Act as a liaison between field crews and senior management, providing updates and reports as needed.
  5. Quality Control:
    • Monitor construction activities for quality assurance and ensure work meets industry standards and project specifications.
    • Perform regular site inspections to ensure construction work is being completed according to approved plans.
    • Address quality control issues and implement corrective measures as necessary.
  6. Coordination with Stakeholders:
    • Communicate with project stakeholders, including engineers, contractors, local authorities, and community members to resolve issues or answer questions.
    • Assist in the preparation of project reports, including updates on progress, budget expenditures, and scheduling changes.
  7. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, labor, equipment usage, and materials on-site.
    • Assist in the preparation of progress reports, meeting notes, and documentation related to project timelines, delays, and change orders.
    • Ensure that all necessary permits and inspections are obtained and completed on time.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in water treatment, wastewater, or lift station construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or assistant superintendent role.
    • Strong understanding of water treatment processes, lift station systems, and construction practices.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of construction project management, scheduling, and budgeting.
    • Familiarity with safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
    • Proficient in reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and blueprints.
    • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Certifications:
    • Valid driver’s license; additional certifications in water treatment or construction (e.g., AWWA, APWA) are a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily outdoor work on construction sites, subject to varying weather conditions.
  • Occasional office work to handle project documentation and reporting.
  • May require extended hours, including evenings or weekends, depending on project deadlines and urgency.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including standing, walking, and climbing on construction sites.
