As Director, Housing Stability, at the Gilbert Family Foundation you’ll play a critical role in advancing housing stability, affordability, and equity in Detroit. This position focuses on creating and leading initiatives that address systemic housing challenges, promote sustainable development, and prioritize community needs. You’ll lead strategies to reduce displacement, increase homeownership, and support long-term housing stability, especially for underserved Detroiters. This role demands a visionary leader who can synergize diverse stakeholders, demonstrate superior communication skills, and uphold the Foundation’s mission to drive inclusive growth and opportunity in Detroit. You’ll report to the Vice President and manage a team to oversee partnerships and grant portfolios.

About The Role

  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to address housing stability, affordability, and displacement prevention. Align efforts with the Foundation’s mission to build wealth and equity for Detroiters.
  • Lead the design, execution, and evaluation of housing initiatives, ensuring alignment with community needs and best practices.
  • Forge and maintain strategic relationships with local and national partners, including government agencies, non-profits, developers, and community organizations.
  • Oversee the distribution and management of grants to support housing-related initiatives. Ensure funded projects deliver measurable community impact.
  • Manage and mentor a team, fostering professional development, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Work closely with community stakeholders to identify priorities and opportunities for equitable housing development. Ensure all initiatives embody a community-first approach.
  • Utilize data to track, measure, and report the effectiveness of housing programs. Leverage insights to improve strategies and achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Represent the Foundation in public forums, media engagements, and community events to advocate for equitable housing policies and initiatives.
  • Investigate innovative housing solutions, including modernized construction techniques (e.g., factory-built housing) and technology-driven approaches to affordability and accessibility.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in housing, community development, or a related field, with a strong background in leadership roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing housing initiatives and partnerships.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a team in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
  • Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with foundation management systems (i.e., Salesforce, Microsoft Suite, Slack)
  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, community and economic development or a related field
