Job Description

HERB and VEGETABLE FARM in EASTON, CT is looking for Farm Operations Assistants to work as part of our production team at our certified organic farm. An Operations Assistant will primarily assist the General Manager and Team Supervisors in day-to-day plant care and production of Gilbertie’s organic wholesale products, which are primarily grown in greenhouses in Easton, Connecticut. Operation Assistants may be tasked with team development, health & safety, quality control, compliance, plant health, dispatch, and other tasks. The right Operations Assistant candidate(s)_ may also be given responsibility for field production, maintenance, property maintenance, and other tasks. Operations Assistants should be comfortable communicating with other team members and troubleshooting challenges relating to plant care, teamwork, and equipment.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist General Manager and Team Supervisors to ensure that daily farm needs are met relating to seeding, planting, transplanting plants from one location to another, and other plant health and plant care issues.
  • Where appropriate, Operations Assistants may also assist the General Manager with production of cut greens.
  • Operating farming equipment.
  • Communicating with various farm teams.
  • Assist the General Manager with ensuring that health and safety guidelines are followed.
  • Engage in data collection and assist, or compile, records.
  • Assist the General Manager by relaying, and providing, feedback, work evaluations, task assignments, goal setting, coaching of team members, and problem solving.
  • Completing such other tasks as may be required by the company’s management team.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Ability to climb a ladder.
  • Ability to crouch and kneel.
  • Ability to reach and stretch.
  • Hand dexterity
  • Comfortable in a non-sedentary role for lengths of time.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Weekends as needed

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Easton, CT 06612: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Greenhouse & Nursery Growers: 2 years (Preferred)
