Building Services and Inspector

Department:  Building Department

Annual Salary:  $55,000 -$65,000

Gilchrist County is seeking a Licensed and Experienced Building Inspector. Responsibilities will include conducting building inspections, mobile home set-up inspections, and assisting with the permitting process in our office. As a Building Inspector, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and compliance of residential and commercial properties within Gilchrist County.  Must be available to work Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough inspections of residential and commercial buildings to ensure compliance with building codes, zoning laws, and safety regulations.
  • Review building plans and specifications for compliance with state and local regulations.
  • Document inspection findings and prepare detailed reports.
  • Collaborate with contractors, architects, and homeowners to address compliance issues.
  • Provide guidance on necessary improvements and corrective actions.
  • Stay updated on building code changes and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Must have standard certification as a residential inspector. Preferred qualifications-State of Florida Standard License for building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical inspector or plans examiner.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen & physical examination and successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required.
  • Experience in building inspections or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Florida building codes, zoning laws, and safety regulations. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A Valid Florida Driver License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioner’s policy.
