What are the responsibilities and job description for the Operator, Battery Changer position at Gildan?
The opportunity
Performs battery changes on warehouse equipment. Removes depleted batteries and replaces with fully charged batteries as required in order to keep material handling equipment available for warehouse operations.
Performs battery changes on warehouse material handling equipment
Performs basic battery maintenance requirements such as maintaining proper water levels in the batteries, battery cleanliness and cable/connector upkeep
Supports basic warehouse maintenance function such as lubrication and oiling
Keeps battery handling system area clean and free of debris
Maintains batteries in a clean and corrosion free condition
Operates battery washing station
Operate hand and powered tools; operates floor sweeper and scrubber as assigned
Required to operate all material handling equipment; must be able to pass appropriate equipment operation training and tests at an acceptable grade
Carries out preventative maintenance tasks as assigned
Operates grease gun and oil dispensing equipment/devices
Carries out assigned duties in manner to meet company's recycling goals
Promotes as safe work environment
Performs minor maintenance department tasks as assigned by manager or supervisor
Distributes and collects scanners as required by production associates following the proper scanner procedure
Maintains battery and scanner inventories
Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs
This opportunity is based in our Sales Marketing and Distribution Team.
The requirements
High School Diploma
6 Months to 1 Year related experience
Work requires almost continuous moderate physical effort OR frequent heavy physical effort (several times a day).
Significant exposure to several disagreeable conditions or to one very disagreeable condition.
Continuous exposure to slightly hazardous elements OR recurring exposure to moderately hazardous elements OR occasional exposure to extremely hazardous elements; moderate risk for more serious injury or health problems.
May be asked or required to wear PPE to protect from hazards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Must understand basic electricity principles in order to assist maintenance technicians with non-technical tasks
Must be able to use basic measuring tools such as micrometers, calibers and rulers
Must be able to successfully pass Equipment Operator training and drive equipment under established safety guidelines
Must be able to handle and work with tools, powered equipment, and other devices in a safe manner
Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis
Must be able to maintain a high degree of focus to promote a safe work environment and prevent injury to others
Must be able to adhere to all facility safety guidelines/rules/regulations
Must understand basic electricity principles
Must have experience with conveyor systems
Must have experience with preventative maintenance programs
Must be able to maintain records and enter required information into a CMMS system
Ability to work in a team-based environment
Must be able to wear required PPE throughout shift (googles, apron, and gloves)
Vision is required to read instruction, interpret data, and be aware of surroundings
Hearing is required in order to receive and follow work instructions, safety warnings, and equipment operations
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English language effectively
