Finance and Accounting Consultant

Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Finance and Accounting Consultant to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in various accounting practices, including governmental accounting, non-profit accounting and corporate finance. This role requires expertise in Federal, state and local financial reporting and compliance regulations, financial report development such as annual reports and audit reports, and proficiency in accounting software such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks, etc. As a Finance and Accounting Consultant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with relevant regulations and internal controls are in place and working.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review financial statements and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
• Provide consulting services on grant-related matters, including preparation of grant reports and compliance reviews.
• Assist clients with governmental accounting requirements and ensure adherence to applicable regulations.
• Conduct audits of financial records to identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate with clients to implement effective accounting systems and processes that enhance operational efficiency.
• Support clients in understanding how to prepare for audits, create or respond to procurement solicitations and map their internal controls and business workflows.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices in accounting, auditing and financial reporting.

Skills

• Proficiency in double entry bookkeeping principles and practices.
• Strong knowledge of corporate accounting practices and financial reporting standards.
• Experience with financial report writing that clearly communicates complex information.
• Familiarity with major ERP systems, SaaS applications for specialized financial functions and Microsoft Power Platform apps such as Teams, Power Automate, Power BI.
• Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail for identifying errors or discrepancies in financial data, preferably using advanced Excel techniques, AI and Tableau for such analyses.
• Strong communication skills for effectively conveying financial information to clients.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
