Position Summary
Gill St. Bernard’s School is searching for a dynamic and experienced full time Upper School Physics teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching, experienced with curriculum development, committed to student-centered pedagogy, and eager to collaborate with colleagues. The successful candidate will be patient, encouraging, and flexible with students, and will model GSB’s core values of compassion, excellence, integrity, respect, and courage. The Upper School Science department seeks candidates who have demonstrable evidence of teaching excellence, a background in experiential learning, and the desire and talent to coach the Upper School FIRST Robotics Team. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach introductory Biology.
Responsibilities
- Teach four (4) sections of Physics including Introductory and Honors Physics (9th grade). Classes meet five out of every seven days. Courses will be planned and taught in collaboration with 1-2 other teachers.
- Provide academic support for students outside of class time as needed (during meeting time, before or after school).
- Collaborate with members of the Upper School Science department to align lesson plans and curriculum.
- Submit grades quarterly and academic narrative comments three times a year.
- After the first year, serve as an advisor to 10-12 students (provide academic and emotional support, communicate regularly with parents/guardians, host in-person conferences twice a year).
- Engage in the co-curricular life of the school by overseeing a student club/service-related organization, based on needs of the student life program. Athletic coaches receive additional stipends.
- After the first year, develop an experiential Spring Unit course with colleagues.
- Participate in divisional, departmental, committee, and grade-team meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Division Director.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
- 5 or more years of experience teaching at the Upper School level
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the secondary level
- Experience instructing a diverse student population
- Demonstrated understanding of cultural competency and full commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work
- Willingness to broaden facility with classroom technology
- Enthusiasm for ongoing professional growth and membership in a community of learners
- Ability to work with students in-person or virtually, as determined by the School
