Description

1.0 FTE (40 hrs. / wk.); Monday - Friday, business hours. This position will require initial on-site training at the River Park Plaza location in St. Paul and then will transition to a remote working role.

Reviews a patient’s medical records after a visit or procedure to translate information into appropriate diagnostic, and procedural codes that insurers use to process claims.

This is a remote opportunity; however, the selected candidate must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin and have the ability to work onsite in St. Paul, MN as needed.

Compensation & Benefits :

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $23.51 / hour to $35.27 / hour, with a median wage of $29.39 / hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Primary Job Responsibilities

Assigns appropriate codes based on the documentation within the medical record.

Complies with medical coding guidelines and policies

Audits charges and billing modifiers to ensure appropriateness and add as needed.

Strives to maintain productivity standards defined by job duties.

Strives to maintain a coding quality standard of 95% and to maintain acceptable turnaround time.

Utilizes all references available including 3M encoder and reference package, ICD-10 and CPT code books, and government websites to ensure appropriate coding.

Monitors incomplete records for efficient turnaround time.

Follows HIPAA, Joint Commission, CMS, Gillette, and state guidelines

Understand NCCI guidelines, Medical Necessity, NCD and LCD’s.

Work with billing / follow-up to troubleshoot denials

Communicates with all facility departments and staff in a professional manner.

Demonstrates competency in organizational systems including Microsoft Office, electronic medical record, online resources, and other relevant technology to perform all necessary coding functions.

Adheres to all organization and department policies, guidelines, workflow to eliminate errors in practice.

Adheres to organization and department attendance policy.

Independently completes annual training as assigned.

Completes self-assessment timely and with contributing comments.

Qualifications

Required

RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CCA at time of hire or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Personal computer experience using data base, spreadsheets, and word processing software

Understanding of physiology, anatomy, and medical terms

Must maintain credentials throughout employment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Coder must have proficient knowledge in medical terminology and codes, hospital policies, and government regulations.

Must have clear communication and active listening skills to interact with a diverse staff and diverse functions.

Position requires problem solving skills for both straightforward and complex coding concerns.

Must be well-versed in conflict management and stay level-headed and positive during stressful situations.

Must have an attention to detail in order to accurately identify coding and billing errors.

As an independent worker, this position requires organizational and time management skills to maintain workload and productivity. Must be able to adapt to an ever-changing role with evolving responsibilities.

Coder must be able to collaborate with others and work as a team.

Must be proactive in setting up oneself for success to ensure tasks get done on time and with minimal supervision.

Preferred

ICD-10 : 1-year coding experience

Medical Field : 1-year experience
