We are hiring for a Surgical Technologist to join our surgical services team! This is a .8 FTE, benefit eligible opportunity. Schedule works primarily Monday-Friday, mix of 8s & 10s with On-call requirements.
Incumbents in this position, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (R.N.), participate in the delivery of patient care which maximizes outcomes in a manner consistent with the hospitals and department’s mission, philosophies and in accordance with professional practice standards. Incumbents ensure safe patient care during a surgical procedure through the use of appropriate planning and implementation of patient care.
Compensation & Benefits Information
The hourly wage for this opportunity is $32.16/hour to $48.25/hour, with a median wage of $40.20/hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. A $1.50 weekend/ $1.50 evening/ $3.00 night differential is available for this position.
Core Responsibilities and Duties
Participates in the delivery of family focused patient care which optimizes the patient’s health status and outcomes by ensuring safe patient care during a surgical procedure.
- Follows standards of aseptic practice by prioritizing care and delivering appropriate care.
- Practices in a competent manner which promotes a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Maintains competency in all areas of the skills checklist and demonstrates flexibility in responding to unanticipated events/ changes in assignments and scheduling rooms.
- Initiates appropriate follow-up strategies.
- Advance technical skills with new equipment and procedures as changes occur.
Prepares and plans for each surgical procedure in a manner consistent with the hospital and department’s mission, philosophies, and in accordance with professional practice standards.
- Completes an initial data collection that is thorough and accurate.
- Prepares operating room with all instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for individual procedures utilizing the data collected.
- Places patient/family needs above other needs.
Communicates and collaborates with healthcare team members as appropriate to implement a seamless plan of care.
- Communicates changes within specialty services for each case needs.
- Is a positive team player utilizing open communication with all members of the care team and is readily available to help out.
- Confirms case needs with surgeon before case start.
Participates in activities that promote professional growth, ease of access, quality improvement and patient satisfaction.
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of accredited school for surgical technologies
- Current certification as a Surgical Technologist
- Current CPR certification – BLS for Healthcare Providers per the American Heart Association Guidelines
Preferred
- Prior experience in pediatrics
- Prior experience as a Surgical Technologist
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated skill in interpersonal communication as related to patients, families, co-workers, physicians and others
- Interest in working with children and adolescents with disabilities and their family
- Ability to work hours required
- Physically able to transport patients
