The School:
Gilmour Academy is a Catholic, independent, coeducational college-preparatory school that was founded in 1946 by the Brothers of Holy Cross from Notre Dame, Indiana. The campus occupies 144 acres in Gates Mills, Ohio, an eastern suburb of Cleveland.
Summary:
The Head Coach actively and intentionally uses the sport of football to further the mission of the school. The Head Coach is the primary ambassador of the sport of football in the Gilmour Academy community. The Head Coach sets the vision and expectations for the overall program and is most responsible for developing the student-athletes and coaches in the football program.
Reports to: Athletic Director
Overall Responsibilities:
Actively supports the entire athletic program and encourages multi-sport participation.
Support school and OHSAA academic, discipline, sportsmanship, and safety policies, as well as be supportive of the school administration.
Practice good stewardship of school resources, including uniforms and budgets
Recruit, evaluate, and develop assistant coaches.
Demonstrate a passion for their sport as evidenced by knowledge and implementation of “best practice principals” and consistent and intentional professional development.
Possess an ability to bring out the best in each and every athlete and an ability to retain athletes.
Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact successfully with students, parents, assistant coaches, faculty, staff, and administration.
Assist students and families who desire to participate at the college level with recruiting.
Shows adherence and attention to the attached list of additional responsibilities.
Pre-Season:
Assist Director of Athletics with Game Schedule for all levels.
Check website to ensure that schedule is correct.
Schedule buses with Associate Athletic Director.
Uniform and equipment inventory.
Schedule meeting with BSN Rep to select “Team Shop” items.
Coaches meeting ~ identify specific responsibilities for each coach.
Reserve facilities with Director of Athletics.
Construct practice schedule.
Player notebook – include schedules, philosophy, expectations, etc.
Check physicals.
Monitor academic eligibility of all student-athletes in program.
Complete OHSAA Rules Interpretation Meeting.
Host a parent meeting, detailing routines and expectations.
In-Season:
Produce daily practice plans in writing… organize practice plans in binder
Provide practice schedule updates to Associate Athletic Director.
Confirm all games/meets/matches with Associate Athletic Director before actual competitions.
Monitor academic performance of student-athletes.
Email all scores to Associate Athletic Director ~ varsity scores reported to media.
Attend weekly CYO & Youth Soccer contests.
Post-Season:
Submit Assistant Coach Evaluations to Director of Athletics.
Submit “End of Season Summary” to Director of Athletics.
Head Coach Evaluation with Director of Athletics.
Collect and inventory uniforms and equipment.
Coordinate team banquet with team moms and Associate Athletic Director.
Year-Round:
Advocate for student-athletes in the college recruiting process.
Advocate/Promote student-athletes & program on social media.
Communicate with Director of Admissions about potential future Lancers & “wish list”.
Coordinate with Director of Strength and Conditioning about seasonal lifting schedule.
Assume supervisory control over all phases of teams in your entire program.
Organize camps and clinics.
Follow OHSAA by-laws and regulations.
