The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of Ginghamsburg Church ensuring accuracy, transparency, and integrity in financial management. This role requires a forward-thinking leader who can adapt to evolving technologies and best practices in church finance. The ideal candidate is a committed Christian with experience managing financial operations in similar-sized organizations, demonstrating strong stewardship and accountability.

Position: Director of Finance / Full-Time Salary Exempt

Accountable To: Senior Staff

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred or commensurate experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in a nonprofit or church setting.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Financial Expertise – Strong understanding of accounting principles, cash flow, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Technical Proficiency – Experience with accounting software (church financial systems preferred).
  • Confidentiality & Integrity – Ability to handle sensitive financial information with discretion.
  • Leadership & Teamwork – Ability to work effectively across staff teams, leadership boards, and the church community.
  • Communication & Organization – Strong written and verbal skills, with attention to detail.
  • Relational & People Skills – Ability to engage and collaborate with adults of all ages and backgrounds.

Primary Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, and reporting.
  • Ensure accurate processing of all financial transactions, including payroll, accounts payable, tax payments, and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and present financial reports, including weekly lead team reports and cash flow analysis.
  • Monthly financial statements and board reports.
  • Manage banking relationships, including deposits, investments, and loans.
  • Partner with the Executive Director and staff leaders to develop an annual budget aligned with church vision.

Financial Systems & Compliance

  • Maintain internal controls and financial policies to safeguard church assets.
  • Ensure compliance with church, nonprofit, and government financial regulations.
  • Oversee financial audits and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Seek ways to reduce expenses and optimize resources.

Stewardship & Contributions

  • Oversee the processing of offerings, including online donations and weekly collections.
  • Ensure proper tracking and acknowledgment of non-cash gifts.
  • Assist with annual giving statements and stewardship campaigns.
  • Partner with ministries to teach financial stewardship to the congregation.

Support for Church Operations & Ministries

  • Provide financial oversight for Ginghamsburg’s ministries, operations, and partner organizations, including Common Grounds Café and Ginghamsburg Preschool & Childcare Center.
  • Offer financial consulting to Ginghamsburg’s nonprofit partners as needed.
  • Collaborate with the business director on benefits administration, recruiting, and onboarding.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Attend weekly staff gatherings and participate in ministry discussions.
  • Present financial reports at monthly leadership board meetings.
  • Serve as a strategic financial advisor to the executive director and senior leadership team.
  • Adapt to emerging financial technologies and implement best practices for financial sustainability.
