Job Overview
As an Automotive Sales Consultant, you will be responsible for selling new and used vehicles, ensuring customer satisfaction, and meeting dealership sales goals. Your success will be based on achieving targets for gross profit, vehicle volume, and customer satisfaction while delivering excellent customer service at every stage of the sales process.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Engagement & Sales: Greet and assist customers who visit the showroom or sales lot. Understand their transportation needs and offer personalized vehicle recommendations based on their preferences.
- Product Knowledge & Demonstration: Maintain a deep understanding of the products, including features, technology, and inventory. Provide thorough vehicle demonstrations and answer all customer inquiries.
- Test Drives & Closing: Offer test drives to all prospects, ensuring proper documentation and identification. Guide customers through the buying process, addressing their concerns and finalizing the sale.
- Customer Satisfaction: Prioritize customer satisfaction by ensuring a high level of service throughout the purchase and delivery process. Follow up with customers to resolve any post-sale questions or issues.
- Finance & Documentation: Facilitate the transition of closed deals to the finance and insurance department, ensuring all paperwork, including trade-in titles and insurance info, is complete and accurate.
- Vehicle Preparation & Delivery: Ensure vehicles are clean, fueled, and fully operational before customer delivery. Review vehicle features, warranty information, and paperwork with the customer.
- Service Department Liaison: Introduce customers to the service department and schedule their first service appointment to ensure ongoing satisfaction.
- Prospect Development: Maintain and develop a strong prospect database, following up on leads and encouraging repeat and referral business.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the service department and body shop to ensure vehicles are properly reconditioned. Attend sales meetings and support the used-vehicle inspection process.
- Sales Goals & Reporting: Set personal sales goals aligned with dealership standards and devise strategies to meet them. Review sales performance regularly to optimize productivity.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in automotive sales or a related field preferred.
- A college degree or specialized automotive training is a plus.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage with customers and present information clearly.
- Basic mathematical skills for calculating discounts, interest, and commissions.
- Ability to problem-solve in a variety of situations and apply common sense to interpret customer needs.
- Certifications & Licenses:
- Valid State Sales License and Driver’s License required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and engage with customers throughout the day.
- Ability to perform tasks that may require bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
Work Environment
The work environment is a dealership setting, which may include both indoor and outdoor work areas. The role may require interaction with various departments, including sales, finance, and service teams.
