Shop Superintendent Job Overview
The Shop Superintendent is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of welding, fabrication and assembly team members. This is a hands-on role and involves ensuring that all welding fabrication and assembly tasks are completed in accordance with drawing(s), specification(s), industry standards, focused on safely completing projects at the highest quality within the defined timeframe. The Shop Superintendent is also responsible for maintaining safety standards, training employees as needed, team member planning, production planning and ensuring that equipment is properly maintained.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead safety by example. Ensure safe work habits and in all situations. Create a safe work environment by identifying and eliminating hazards and unsafe acts. Pursue employee accountability and involvement.
- Communicate, Communicate, Communicate – With Management, PM’s, Shop Supervisors, department employees.

· Lead and supervise a team of welders, fabricators, and apprentices, providing guidance, support, and direction on daily tasks.
· Assign tasks based on project requirements, team skills, and deadlines.
· Ensure that all team members adhere to safety protocols, quality standards, and company policies.

· Oversee the fabrication and welding of steel, and other metals according to drawings, specifications and industry standards.
· Inspect work to ensure it meets quality standards and project specifications, adjusting as needed.
· Assist with complex welding and fabrication tasks as necessary, serving as a hands-on leader.

· Implement and maintain quality control processes, including regular checks on welding integrity, product dimensions, assembly quality including product finishing.

· Ensure the equipment is properly maintained and in good working order.
· Coordinate the repair and servicing of tools and machinery as needed, minimizing downtime and production delays.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in welding and fabrication required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an AWS certified welder required.
- Experience and/or knowledge of AISC required.
- At least three years of supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must wear required safety equipment while in shop;
- Exposure to noise, heat, cold and hazardous materials;
- Extended time walking and/or standing on shop floor;
- Working at a desk and on a computer; and
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.

Schedule: 7:00 am – 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday; 7:00 am – 3:30 pm on Friday; additional overtime if/as required
