Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Girls Basketball Coach to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in basketball and a commitment to educating and developing athletes at various skill levels. This position involves coaching, mentoring, and fostering a positive team environment while promoting sportsmanship and teamwork.
TERM:
Length of season (approved PIAA starting date through end of season) if not
PIAA term to be determined by the Student Affairs committee of the Board of Education.
PAYMENT SCHEDULE:
According to established Business Office procedures with final payment made
after submission of equipment inventory, ALL KEYS and completed requisition
forms.
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
1. Head coach-responsible for the overall program
2. Assistant coach-to perform such duties as assigned by head coach
SCOPE:
It is the belief of the Girard School District that coaches influence not only the conduct of the players under their direction, but also that of the student spectators, school facilities, parents of players and interested citizens who attend athletic contests. Since coaches are influential in setting the tone of conduct, they must visibly show that they value self-restraint, fair play, and sportsmanlike behavior at all times. . They should not, at any time, use provocative language or engage in unsportsmanlike actions or tactics. They must avoid actions or remarks which would tend to incite the displeasure of the spectators or provoke disorderly behavior.
BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
- Ensure that physical forms, insurance forms and code of conduct forms are turned in as required.
- In conjunction with the Equipment Manager, is responsible for:
a. Issuance and collection of uniforms and equipment used by the athlete.
b. Proper care, treatment, and storage of uniforms and equipment
c. Providing a signed receipt to the Equipment Manager for all equipment issued to the coach.
d. Preparing an inventory of equipment on hand for his/her sport, and presenting this to the Athletic Director within two weeks following the close of the season.
- Responsible for scheduling and securing use of facilities for practices and contests. Responsible for the security of the facilities during and after practice.
- Responsible for ordering transportation and securing monies through the Athletic Director.
- Works closely with the Athletic Director in scheduling interscholastic contests.
- To provide the Athletic Director with all individual and team records (letter winners, etc.) at the close of the season.
- Recommends purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms, as appropriate.
- Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
- Enforces and demonstrates discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students and coaches.
- Assign assistant coaches to appropriate duties.
- Assist in evaluation of assistant coaches.
- Know the rules of eligibility and report known violations to the Athletic Director, inform the athletes of eligibility rules
- Control the use of improper language, enforce player conduct and training practices.
- Meet the parents of all players at the start of the season to explain expectations, schedule, behavior, eligibility, etc….
- Meet the Athletic Director and/or Building Principal prior to the season and at the end of the season
- Head Coach must be certified in CPR and First Aid.
- To perform such other duties as may be determined by mutual agreement of the coach, the Principal, the Board of Directors, in respect to furthering the basic goals of the program.
EVALUATION:
Annual evaluations shall be conducted by the superintendent and principal of each coaches’/assistant’s performance. This evaluation will be based upon:

a. Interactions with parents, players and community
b. Interactions with game officials, coaches of opposing teams and
communications with principal and athletic director
c. Ability to control assistant coaches, etc…
2.
a. Ability to teach basic skills to all players
b. Organization of practices, scrimmages, etc…
c. Handling necessary paperwork, etc.
d. Care of equipment
e. Managing budget
f. Accomplishing goals for the season
g. Following school district/PIAA policies and procedures
h. Actively recruits players
i. Fields a competitive, well-behaved team
