Description
The Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance Manager in the upkeep and repair of the camps buildings, grounds and equipment consistent with the mission and established policies and procedures of the camp.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains camp grounds:
- Operates necessary grounds care equipment such as mower, string trimmer, chain saw, etc. in a safe and efficient manner.
- Is aware of and can make necessary changes to hazards found on camp grounds.
Assists in the repair and maintenance of buildings, facilities and vehicles:
- Assists in making minor repairs as needed.
- Assists in electrical, plumbing and carpentry projects.
- Maintains maintenance logs as directed.
- Monitors generator oil and anti-freeze levels.
- Able to check vehicle fluid levels and monitor tire pressure.
- Proficient in the use of basic hand tools and light power tools.
Other Job Duties:
- May assist restroom janitorial services, window washing, vacuuming.
- Assist in cleaning and maintenance of camp after each session and during end-of-season cleaning period.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: (Minimum Qualifications and Experience)
- Minimum age 18
- High School diploma or (GED); or two years of experience in
afacility and site maintenance, construction or grounds keeping business. - Current certification in first aid and CPR, desired.
- Insurable, with a valid Drivers License and clean driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to function independently.
- Highly responsible and trustworthy.
- Ability to work on a team, relate and work well with others.
- Self-starter and organized.
- Ability to accept guidance, direction and supervision.
- Proficiency in the safe and proper use of power equipment, tools and building materials.

- Basic carpentry skills a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to understand and implement safety regulations and procedures.
- Ability, both visual and auditory, to identify safety hazards and monitor guest and staff behavior and enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures.
- Ability to walk, stand, bend and stretch.
- Ability to lift, up to approximately 50 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 75 pounds may be required.
- Ability to safely drive cars, light trucks, tractors and other motorized vehicles.
- Physically able to work at altitudes of 5000 feet.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
An on-site residence commitment from May 2025 to September 2025 is required in addition to passing the appropriate background check clearance.
Willing to live in or travel daily to camp setting and work irregular hours. Operate with daily exposure to the sun, heat and other environmental conditions. Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. May work in environments of inclement weather.
