Description
The Target Sports Lead develops and delivers target sport and hand eye coordination activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers' age and abilities. Responsibilities
1. Program
- Develop and deliver a target sports program for campers of varying ages and abilities.
- Instruct and promote safe equipment use and care in target sports area.
- Facilitate target sports activities, including camper skill progression, reward programs, and evaluations.
2. Ensure safety and education procedures are followed by staff and campers
- Enforce safety procedures outlined by Girl Scouts Safety Activity Checkpoints, American Camp Association standards, and USA Archery procedures.
- Model positive behavior for campers and staff.
- Provide staff coverage and facilitate camper evaluations.
3. Maintain target sports facilities and equipment
- Maintain equipment and supplies, including inventory and timely replacement planning.
- Monitor hazards or enhancements in target sports area and alert other staff.
- Conduct daily checks for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
- Secure activity areas when not in use.
Additional Job Duties
- Participate in all camp activities, planning, and leading as assigned.
- Attend pre-camp staff training and in-service sessions.
- Assist with living unit organization, camper supervision, and positive role modeling.
- Help with camp cleaning and maintenance during pre-camp, sessions, and end-of-season periods.
- Chaperone arriving and departing campers on buses as assigned.
- Assist with camper luggage delivery and pickup.
Qualifications
- Minimum age 21 preferred.
- Experience in high-risk or youth programming required.
- Ability to interact with girls of all ages.
- Current certification in first aid and CPR desired (trainings provided).
- Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
KSA's
- Training and experience in target sports desired.
- Archery Instructor I certified or willing to be certified.
- Able to work with children outdoors in varied conditions.
- SOME KNOWLEDGE OF SPORT SCIENCE, GENERAL TARGET SPORTS, AND FACILITATION DESIRED.
- Ability to motivate and maintain relationships with diverse cultures and organizational levels.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
Physical and Intellectual Aspects
- Communicate effectively in English and work with groups of varying ages and skill levels.
- Observe and assess camper behavior, enforce safety regulations, and apply behavior-management techniques.
- Monitor staff behavior, enforce safety regulations, and apply management techniques.
- Identify and respond to environmental hazards.
- Respond to emergency situations and possess strength and endurance for constant supervision.
