To further the mission of the camp by providing excellent customer service and organization. Responsible for running and overseeing the trading post, managing the mail system, photographing and uploading photographs of camp programs, and maintaining organization in camp paperwork.

Essential Functions

  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude, behavior, and following of camp procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all camp participants, families, caregivers, and groups.
  • Oversee operations of camp trading post.
  • Operate the trading post during check-in, check-out, and during each unit’s trading post time including making and documenting sales and accepting payment.
  • Communicate with retail team about the store’s financial status and items to be restocked.
  • Record amount of cash in register at the beginning and end of each day.
  • Manage the incoming and outgoing mail systems and ensure mail delivery happens daily.
  • Take photographs of camp activities.
  • Upload photographs of camp activities to camp’s photo sharing website for families.
  • Work directly with the Digital Media Specialist to identify and execute photography and social media ideas.
  • Provide clerical and administrative assistance to the camp office.
  • Answer camp phone and log messages.
  • Assist with check-in and check-out processes including inventory and organization of necessary paperwork and camper information.
  • Review and transcribe camper experience surveys at the end of each session.
  • Apply youth development principles to empower campers, embrace diversity, aid in competency development, and build connections.
  • Assist in the creation of schedules for campers and staff.
  • Schedule trading post time for every unit during each camp session.
  • Take action to keep camp clean and safe, including assisting in camp chores, caring for program materials, and reporting all maintenance issues in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Display and inventory trading post merchandise and ensure general cleanliness. Conduct beginning- and end-of-season equipment / supply inventory.
  • Submit order requests for equipment / supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials.
  • Participate as a member of the camp leadership team to plan, direct, and supervise evening programs, special events, and all other all-camp activities and functions.
  • Assist in the implementation of staff training.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and risk management guidelines to maintain high standards of health, safety, and supervision for campers and staff at all times.
  • Assist in the responsibilities associated with upholding State of Michigan Licensing and American Camp Association regulations and standards.
  • Support counseling staff with daily care and supervision of campers.
  • Actively participate in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.
  • Assist in evening and overnight camper supervision through conducting bed-checks and sleeping in units as assigned.
  • Responsible for ensuring that daily and weekly functions of camp run in accordance with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) standards.
  • Assist in the planning of any special events.
  • Do what needs to be done so that every camper has a great summer at camp.

  • Education and Experience

  • 18 years or older.
  • Previous experience with children’s camps or working with children preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in sales, photography, social media management, scheduling, and administrative work.
  • Comfortable answering phones and communicating through email.
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and stay on schedule.
  • Must have belief in (and ability to speak about passionately and with conviction) the mission and values of Girl Scouts, be willing to subscribe to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law, and aware of the needs of youth in our pluralistic society.
  • Current certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid / CPR / AED or willingness to obtain.
  • Must become a member of Girl Scouts.
  • Must be able to pass State and National background check.
  • Ability to collaborate with teammates and supervisors and cohabitate effectively in a communal environment.
  • Work Environment

    Operates in a professional camp environment and will live on site. This role occasionally uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. Ability and willingness to work in various activity areas within camp (archery, climbing wall, waterfront, horses, etc) in all types of weather from rain, snow, extreme heat and cold. Must be able to move around the camp property to assist campers in their activities. Will spend majority of hours each day standing and interacting with children.

    Work Schedule

  • Position requires flexibility with schedule, typical schedule is Sunday through Friday, though some Saturdays may be required.
  • Position requires living on site and working evenings.
  • Supervisory Responsibility

    This position has no supervisory responsibility.

    Compensation

  • Room and board.
  • 80 per day (position requires a 6-day workweek).
  • Paid training and certifications.

  • Location Employment Dates

    Camp Linden : June 8th through August 24th, 2025.
