What does a Program Facilitator do?
As a Program Facilitator, you will facilitate outdoor adventure activities (rock climbing, low/high ropes, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating, archery, and/or snowshoeing) and general Girl Scout programming for Girl Scout groups and/or outside groups at Girl Scout sites. In this role, you will work non-school hours and/or on weekends with optional evening and overnight hours. The work may be indoors or outdoors and may be hot, humid, rainy, or cool weather.
Key Responsibilities include:
Programming
- Assist with the implementation of a safe and challenging Girl Scout program.
- Conduct outdoor adventure programs in trained area of rock climbing, low ropes, high ropes, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating, archery, and/or snowshoeing.
- Participate regularly in enrichment trainings for boating, archery, snowshoeing and ropes course.
- Promote progression in activities matched to ability and interests of participants.
- Complete appropriate documentation after each program; keep portfolio of program and training hours and report hours to a member of the Outdoor Program Team.
Safety
- Inspect all equipment and environmental surroundings thoroughly immediately before each program; communicate any maintenance, equipment replacement needs or questions to a member of the Outdoor Program Team in a timely manner.
- Ensure participants are dressed appropriately and given proper safety training prior to use of equipment.
- Implement the current standard operating procedures, local operating procedures, Girl Scout Safety Activity Checkpoints and Girl Scout Volunteer Essentials guidelines.
What you will need to succeed in this role:
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Previous experience running challenge programs, boating, archery or snowshoeing, preferred.
- Excellent judgment skills and focus on safety, first.
- Ability to facilitate and work with a wide range of diverse youth and adults.
- Access to reliable transportation to travel to GSEMA offices/service centers and across the council service area as needed. Possession of a valid driver's license and access to a motor vehicle is preferred.
A plus if you have:
- Certification in CPR & First Aid required; Level 2 Ropes certification is desired.
- Experience/training/certification or a willingness to obtain certification through GSEMA in the following areas: rock climbing, low ropes, high ropes, canoeing, kayaking paddle boating, archery, and/or snowshoeing.
Physical demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk on varied terrain, and participate in active physical movement.
- Ability to monitor and communicate with campers, adults and staff effectively and respond to emergency situations.
- Ability to lift and manipulate up to 30 pounds.
