Position will primarily be based at Camp Wah-Sha-She near Bartlesville, but may occasionally be assigned to help out at Camp Tallchief or Camp Swannie near Skiatook. A part-time schedule of approximately 25 hours per week will be determined and will include eligibility for some benefit plans,
Job Summary
The Camp Ranger is primarily responsible for maintaining and improving Girl Scout property and equipment in accordance with Council requirements and applicable safety, health, and accreditation standards. This is performed in order to serve the program needs of Girl Scouts and other users. The Camp Ranger is responsible for ensuring the usability by performing maintenance, as well as ensuring the safety and security of Camp Tallchief/Camp Swannie and Camp Wah-Shah-She. This position is designated as safety sensitive.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Patrols property as necessary for safety and service. Ensure all physical property and equipment is maintained in operational condition and good appearance, being particularly alert to conditions which could affect health, safety, sanitation, and good organization of the camp.
- Performs ongoing facilities, grounds, and equipment maintenance in accordance with council standards and maintenance plan and conducts regular site inspections.
- Performs regular security checks to ensure the safety of individuals on-site and to protect the council’s property.
- Aids property site users by responding to maintenance requests in a timely manner and by supplying other site needs.
- Registers all site users upon entering and exiting site; meets with leaders to obtain number of users and facility needs.
- Opens and closes pool and performs required preventive maintenance.
- Ensures daily feed, hay, inspection, and care of horses while horses are on property. (Eight months a year)
- Ensures aerobic sewer systems are serviced monthly and operating properly.
- Ensures powerboats are serviced and fueled daily while in use during resident camp.
- Ensures that day camps are mowed and sprayed to help with pest control.
- Delivers equipment such as canoes, kayaks, and safety equipment to offsite locations when necessary.
- Maintains inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Serves as the council on-site representative by receiving shipments, meeting with contractors, and accompanying inspectors and other site visitors.
- Supports council governance and tactical decisions by documenting property usage, costs, income, and other pertinent information in a useful format.
- Participates in council governance and tactical planning to ensure examination of property issues.
- May supervises up to two part time rangers and oversees outside contractors.
- May be accountable for special projects such as Juliette Low Leadership Society, annual meeting, program events, service unit events, council events, and other fund-raising activities as needed.
- Maintains and analyzes statistical data; and writes reports.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
- 3 years of experience in carpentry, road maintenance, and minor repair of machinery, landscaping, water and sewer systems.
- Must have a valid driver's license within the state of employment.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate heavy machinery, using appropriate safety gear.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize, interpret, and evaluate.
- Proficient in using spreadsheet, word processing and database software.
- Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information.
Physical and Schedule Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 70 pounds
- Ability to walk at least one mile over uneven terrain.
- Some periods of continual standing or walking may be required; must be able to walk, bend, stoop, carry, and lift for extended periods of time.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some evening and weekends.
