Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington & Northern Idaho is looking for a Counselor-In-Training Leadership Coordinator for Beautiful Camp Four Echoes, Summer Resident Camp 2025 - Join in on the fun at the lake this summer!

Must be 18 years of age or older

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Assistant Camp Director, the Leadership Director is responsible for implementing the Counselor-in-Training programs. These programs consist of mentoring current campers in preparation for future camp counseling opportunities that involve all aspects of leading a team to plan, lead, and implement outdoor camp programs, trips, activities, and experiences for girls ages 5-17 for an assigned group of campers. This position is also accountable for the general safety and empowering the personal growth and skill development of the participants in their group. The Leadership Coordinator exhibits enthusiasm and patience while exemplifying the Girl Scout core values of honesty, caring, courage, and character.

 The CIT Leadership Coordinator will live on-site beginning June 2nd to August 15th for the 2025 Camp Season - * Dates subject to change according to position.

Approximately $6,510.00 
PLUS room & board for the camp season
 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:

  • Attends to safety of campers at all times; follow and instructs staff on procedures for incidents and emergencies that may occur on trips
  • Leads a team, supervising up to 12 campers as a group during for 10-21 days, coordinating the group’s schedule and leadership activities
  • Works to create a positive group culture through team-building and problem-solving activities
  • Ensures weekly age-appropriate programming requirements primarily in leadership, but also in STEM, art, cooking, hiking, waterfront, etc. are met through daily activities and weekly trips
  • Teaches and encourages campers to progress in independent and group living skills such as personal hygiene, taking care of personal belongings, rolling sleeping bags, re-packing luggage, cabin clean-up and other camp jobs
  • Assists unit staff in scheduling and carries out weekly age-appropriate archery programming requirements
  • Instructs campers in leadership programs on how to teach and encourages campers to progress in independent skills such as caring for equipment, proper use of supplies and equipment, clean up and following safety guidelines
  • Plans, prepares, and implements leadership programming and curriculum based on GSUSA guidelines and using the current staff training model as a guideline.
  • Models how to engage all campers in games, crafts, or other activities at all times (including during the girls’ down time, meals, all-camp activities, clean-up, etc.)
  • Participate in the facilitation of camp programming when not directly conducting Leadership programming
  • Models and instructs on personal responsibilities such as conflict management, positive relationships, following rules, and respecting camp property
  • Follows and implements appropriate behavior management procedures with all campers.
  •  Supports Unit Staff to increase their skills and assist with challenging camper behavior that may present itself
  • Attends all meals with campers in the dining hall or during cook-outs. Teaches and models table manners, appropriate meal conversation and positive social interactions
  • Instructs unit staff how to provide opportunities for girls to lead during all arts/crafts/nature activities
  • Follows and implements appropriate behavior management procedures when interacting with all campers
  • Completes and submits all paperwork in a timely and efficient manner
  • Exhibits punctuality and communication in time management, including daily and weekly breaks
  • Respects and follows the “Camp is for the camper” philosophy by attending to camper and camp needs first
  • Represents camp appropriately in the community and with parents by maintaining personal hygiene, following camp dress code, and communicating respectfully with campers, parents and other adults
  • Actively participates in staff trainings, meetings, and camp closing activities, including but not limited to deep cleaning, lifting or moving equipment, taking out trash and closing inventory
  • Reports concerns and incidents to the Assistant Camp Director
  • Practices the Girl Scout Promise and Law with an inclusive attitude and a willingness to problem-solve
  • Attends weekly scheduling meetings with Unit Leaders as needed
  • Follows all procedures and regulations according to the GSEWNI Council, GSUSA, and state and federal guidelines and laws and the American Camp Association
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 years or older

Education/Experience:

  • Current First Aid & CPR certification
  • One (1) year experience working with girls ages 5-17 through camp, day care, or teaching.
  • An understanding of progressive programming and leadership training.
  • Ability to grasp the landscape within an organization, show passion for working with Girl Scouts and the nonprofit environment and expertise in using various communication vehicles that engage girls.
  • Willingness to subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout movement, including acceptance of the Girl Scout philosophy and willingness to maintain membership in the Girl Scouts USA

Physical Abilities: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to:

Regularly lift objects up 30 pounds, repetitive movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers.  Climb, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, twist and crouch while performing duties.  Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time, up to 12 hours, and work in inclement weather.  Clearly see 20 feet, with or without corrective lenses and differentiate between colors (no color blindness)

  • Multi-Tasking Ability: ability to handle many diverse tasks/projects at one time; ability to prioritize and complete them on time.

 

Work Environment:  

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee lives for up to 12 weeks in close proximity to others, including sharing living quarters, restrooms, laundry facilities and a common staff lounge. May only use personal electronics (such as computers, phones and other devices) only during personal designated breaks and out of sight of campers. Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment is an integral part of this position, as is the ability to work with high-stress situations based on the nature of GSEWNI mission and daily work.
