Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago & Northwest Indiana is seeking seasonal Outdoor Program Facilitators to be responsible for supervising and engaging youth ages 5-17 and adults in a variety of outdoor adventure activities, including ziplining, rappelling, archery, canoeing, swimming, and more. Ideal candidates are enthusiastic leaders with experience working with youth, strong communication skills, and a passion for outdoor education.
This is a seasonal, part-time hourly position working 10-25 hours per week, with the potential for permanent part-time status. Regular evening and weekend work required in June, July, and August.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Interact with, supervise and set the example for youth ages 5 - 17
Operate and instruct at various adventure programs, potentially including: archery, slingshots, outdoor cooking, hiking, low ropes, and other outdoor experiences.
Ensure that safety policies and procedures are followed
Ensure the Girl Scouts are engaged in the Challenge by Choice program
Oversee transitions to and from scheduled events, and facilitating and participating in group activities
May perform other related duties as assigned
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma or GED
Previous experience working with youth in a recreational/educational setting preferred
Knowledge of basic practices of youth development, camp programs, and activities
Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and skilled communicator with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Ability to teach campers, problem-solving and exercise independent judgment
Must participate in and successfully demonstrate required skills in First Aid/CPR training
Interest in obtaining Archery, Lifeguard, and Aquatic Small Craft trainings
Willingness to live and work in an indoor and outdoor camp setting, which includes working irregular hours with limited or simple equipment, rustic facilities, wildlife and insects; limited technology while at camp, and daily exposure to sun, rain, and other weather conditions
