Assistant Camp Director

This position runs from May 27 to July 18, 2025, requiring overnight stays onsite and travel between our camps in Savannah, Augusta, and Lizella GA. You will be required to report to your assigned camp on Sundays. For the full schedule, please review the listing on really or email careers@gshg.org.

Team Role
Lifeguard will ensure the safety and well-being of all campers by possessing strong swimming skills, a commitment to maintaining a safe environment, and the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for monitoring pool activities, enforcing safety rules, performing rescues when necessary, and administering first aid or CPR as needed. You will maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable swimming environment, working with a team to ensure the highest standards of safety and service.
Essential Duties:
- Constantly monitor the pool and surrounding areas to ensure the safety of all swimmers. Always remain alert and vigilant to identify any potential hazards, accidents, or risky behaviors.
- Respond immediately to emergency situations, performing rescues and providing necessary first aid or CPR when required. Ensure that rescue equipment is easily accessible and in good working condition.
- Enforce all pool safety rules and regulations, including those related to pool behavior, diving, and use of equipment. Prevent unsafe behaviors and educate swimmers on proper pool etiquette.
- Be prepared to act in case of accidents, injuries, or medical emergencies. Follow emergency procedures, including calling emergency services when needed, and assist in providing care until help arrives.
- Administer first aid and CPR as necessary, using current techniques and protocols. Maintain up-to-date certifications in first aid, CPR, and other required lifeguard training.
- Regularly inspect the pool area, ensuring that it is clean, safe, and free of hazards. Report any unsafe conditions (e.g., faulty equipment, slippery surfaces) to supervisors for immediate attention.
- Ensure that rescue equipment such as life jackets, rescue tubes, backboards, and first aid kits are in good working condition and readily available.
- Provide excellent customer service by interacting with pool patrons in a friendly, professional manner. Answer questions about pool rules, programs, and safety practices. Maintain a positive, welcoming atmosphere.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents, or rescues that occur during your shift. Report any concerns, accidents, or maintenance issues to management.
Essential Duties
- Work as part of a team with other lifeguards, pool staff, camp staff, and management to ensure smooth operations. Participate in staff meetings, training, and in-service sessions to stay informed about safety procedures.
- Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the pool area, including picking up litter, checking pool chemicals, and ensuring the pool deck and surrounding areas are safe and free from debris.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Certifications: Current certification in Lifeguard Training (American Red Cross, YMCA, or equivalent). Certification in CPR and First Aid is required.
- Be a registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA and believe in the movement's mission.
- Be at least 19 years of age with one season of related camp experience.
- Possess a current driver’s license and valid auto insurance coverage.
- Be able to endure prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking, climbing, and stretching.
- Moderate lifting (up to 25 lbs.).
- Walking on uneven terrain, up and down hills for distances up to ½ mile.
- Possess endurance, stamina, keen awareness, and sound judgement to respond, as appropriate, to various emergency situations. Ability to live in a rustic camp setting and work irregular hours with exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, or bats.
