Job Summary:
The Grant Writer is responsible for crafting compelling grant proposals to communicate Girl Scouts of Northern California’s mission and programs to prospective funders. The successful candidate will work with the Director of Grants and Fund Management to conduct prospect research, prepare grant proposals, reports, letters of intent and budgets. Reporting to the Director of Grants and Fund Management, the Grant Writer plays an important role to achieve GSNorCal’s overall fundraising goals.
Job Accountabilities:
- Proposal Development: Draft clear and compelling grant proposals, letters of intent, budgets and reports. Maintain and update descriptive program material and impact statements.
- Prospect Research: Conduct prospect research of community foundations and corporations to identify new opportunities for funding.
- Grants Management and Recordkeeping: Maintain organized electronic and hard copy grant files for submitted and secured proposals. Track grants activity in Raisers Edge and other internal grant tracking tools. Assist in maintaining grants calendar to ensure timely submission of proposals and reports.
- Stewardship: Prepare customized acknowledgement letters for awarded grants. Collaborate with team to ensure efficient processing of grant awards, and to maintain accurate foundation, corporate and government contact information in the fundraising database. Work with Program Department to ensure accurate tracking of grants activities and evaluation metrics.
- Professional Development: Participate in professional development opportunities and stay informed of developments within youth development, out-of-school-time learning, foundation, corporate, and government sectors to provide guidance regarding funding opportunities and trends.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience and education, comparable to the attainment of a bachelors’ degree.
- Superb writing, editing, analytical, and research skills are essential; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
- High integrity, strong work ethic, thrives in a team environment with positive energy and proven results.
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience in fund development and interest to learn new skills.
- Experience writing grant proposals and applications reports.
- Exceptional organization skills and attention to detail and accuracy.
- High-level computer literacy and proficiency with online research, Web-based grant applications, and the MS Office suite of software applications.
- Experience using fundraising software.
- Good telephone and email communications skills, and a collaborative, positive attitude.
- Ability to manage, prioritize and deliver multiple projects under deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse employee, volunteer and donor population

Remote work and/or office expectations:
- This position is part-time, non-exempt, 15-20 hours per week.
