The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Behind every Girl Scout and volunteer is a team of local staff ready to help them earn that next badge, embark on a camping adventure, or organize an impactful service project.
We are Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ) serving girls in grades K-12 in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and northern Warren counties. We bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to 19,000 girls and 10,200 adult members. We are looking for a new Membership Manager to join our team!
The Membership Manager is responsible for developing and executing effective recruiting and retention strategies to grow girl and adult membership and support continued engagement of existing membership across the jurisdiction. Responsible for securing and maintaining girl and adult volunteer participation. Developing community partnership opportunities, with a strong focus on faith based groups, in order to implement Girl Scouting within areas defined by demographic and strategic needs.
Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Primarily responsible for partnerships and events in Northern Bergen County, with the ability to cover Membership work and events across the jurisdiction in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, and Northern Warren counties when needed.
- Achievement of individual targeted goals as part of overall council membership goal for girls and adults. Development and implementation of membership and retention strategies in all required areas.
- Designs a comprehensive plan for girl and adult membership growth in targeted areas by researching market data, membership and demographic trends, geographical opportunities and other pertinent information relevant to areas of the jurisdiction.
- Implements membership recruitment marketing strategies outlined in the council’s strategic plan, annual business plan and/or other council goals including cultivation and organization of communities to result in increased girl and volunteer leads.
- Cultivates and maintains relationships with appropriate community leaders, organizations, and business to support recruitment efforts within targeted areas and to positively impact membership growth and retention.
- Establishes initial contact with potential leads, verifies level of interest and gathers relevant details for Membership Support to input to Salesforce.
- Analyzes a variety of data and prepares action plans and schedules to identify specific targets and to project the number of contacts to be made in order to meet new membership and renewal goals.
- Collaborates cross functionally, with a focus on Member Experience, Membership Support and Community Engagemet.
- Ensures Girl Scouting is open to all girls and adults by delivering the Girl Scout message of pluralism and diversity to potential and existing members of the council.
- Works with cross-functional team to determine or develop innovative techniques to ensure the effective delivery of recruitment and retention strategies.
- Helps foster and implement the council’s policy to strive for a volunteer, employee and program participant population reflective of the area’s religious, racial, ethnic, social and economic diversity.
- As is the case with all our roles at the GSNNJ council, we are a small and passionate team of lifelong learners who jump in to support our staff across departments. As opportunities present, we expect our staff at all levels to participate in organizational initiatives and support our mission of serving girls. All staff are required to promote and assist with council-wide programs, activities and public relations.
- Staff members are accountable for achieving their performance goals that collectively enable GSNNJ to reach our council goals. Each staff member is expected to take an active role in all areas of operations, especially by being alert to opportunities to identify and engage potential volunteers, girl members, donors, vendors, collaborators, etc. and providing contact information to the appropriate staff person.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field.
- Proficiency in a second language (preferably Spanish)
- Sales or recruitment experience and knowledge of Girl Scout policies and procedures preferred
- Experience working with faith based groups
- Excellent organizational skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, and active listening skills.
- Exceptional time management capability to work in fast paced environment and handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to locate, research and analyze in-house and external data to support membership growth.
- Superior verbal communication/presentation skills; confident, friendly, social and outgoing.
- Ability to speak to small and large groups.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; able to learn, understand and apply tools in Salesforce to ensure all leads are entered into the system.
- Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
- Membership in GSUSA is required upon employment and annually thereafter.
- Ability to work primarily on the road with minimal in-office time; familiarity with demographics and trends in coverage area.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable automobile and auto insurance.
Salary : $45,000 - $47,000
