Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging Summer Camp environment! At Jockey Hollow, there are 212 pristine acres to explore and enjoy. With a large "L"-shaped swimming pool, Low Ropes Challenge Course and Zip Line, beautiful equestrian center, archery range, playing field, and adventurous hiking trails, the fun is endless!
The Stream Specialist is responsible for creating a fun and safe outdoor learning environment for campers by developing an engaging stream program at camp which includes teaching classes.
Immediate Supervisor: Program Director
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Attend all sessions required of position at Pre-Camp Orientation
- Teaching classes provide fun, informative, skill building lessons for children.
- Provides safety orientation to equipment and safety procedures.
- Provides resources for unit staff to develop unit nature games, lessons and programs.
- Set up and keep stream equipment in clean, organized, and safe order.
- Set up samples of available programs with directions.
- Provide some pre-camp training: teach staff some activities and give information on activities available.
- Begins and continues file of ideas and directions for stream programs.
- Submits seasonal report and evaluation of program activities.
- Promotes high camper and staff morale.
- Must be able to stay and sleep over for at least one out of the three overnights
- Performs other duties as requested
Requirements
- Minimum age: 18 years of age.
- Be able to generate interest in the outdoors among campers by developing and delivering an age-appropriate stream exploration program.
- Applicants should be comfortable leading hikes and stream activities.
- Applicants should have a love of the outdoors, knowledge of natural history, and experience teaching children about nature.
- Willing to be certified in archery and/or challenge course (training and certification provided by camp).
- Hold or be willing to obtain current certification of standard First Aid and CPR (training to be provided).
Physical Requirements
- Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
- Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
- Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
Daily Rate: $118 (new staff) - $123 per day (returning staff). This is based on a 7.5 hour work day, which translates to $15.73 - $16.40 hourly respectively.
