What are the responsibilities and job description for the Range Safety Officer position at Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Range Safety Officer will be responsible for the BB gun range. They will work with other members of the support staff to plan, teach, coordinate, and carry out activities. They will assist with integrating the principles of the Girl Scout program into camp activities and cabin
life. Unit Leaders must commit to leading by example and living port staff to plan, teach, coordinate, and carry out activities. They will assist with integrating the principles of the Girl program into camp activities and cabin life. Unit Leaders must commit to lead by example and live by the Girl Scout Law. This unit lead will facilitate and lead all shooting sport
areas on camp.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To incorporate opportunities for teaching courage, confidence, and character during daily interaction with campers and staff.
• To facilitate archery, sling shots, axe throwing, and BB guns while at overnight camp.
• To become familiar with the age groups served and Girl Scout programming to develop and run age-appropriate shooting sport activities.
- To clean and organize supplies and equipment at both the start and end of camp.
- To keep all shooting sport areas and supplies, organized, and well-maintained daily.
- To keep a properly stocked first aid kit in winterberry and discovery center at all times.
- To actively participate in pre-camp staff training by providing training for camp staff on how to request supplies from the arts and nature center and how to use them in their age specific cabin group programming.
- To provide shooting sport related skill builder programs for campers that. Provide each camper with a shooting sport fun patch.
- To run free-choice activity sessions as needed.
- To provide age-appropriate program content in coordination with the program supervisor for age specific evening activities
