We are currently looking for individuals to fill the following position at Camp La Jita . La Jita, meaning “precious possession”, was aptly chosen as the name for our resident camp on the beautiful Sabinal River near Utopia, Texas. Camp La Jita rests on 236 acres of Texas Hill Country land, one hour and twenty minutes west of San Antonio.

Position Title : Camp La Jita Nurse

Position Purpose : The Camp La Jita Nurse is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of campers and staff.

Essential Job Functions :

Cares for the physical well-being of everyone in camp. Takes care of all cases of illness and accidents of campers and staff.
Keeps heath records; records all treatment in bound book and other health information including insurance claims.
Maintains first aid equipment.
Inventories all medical supplies at the end of the camp season; disposing of items that cannot be kept through the winter, packing for storage supplies that are unusable.
Prepares records for office files, including health forms for all campers and staff, inventories, daily treatment sheets, individual health records, and accident and illness insurance forms.
Notifies Camp Director immediately of all serious illnesses and accidents.
Transports any ill or injured person to the doctor or the hospital when needed.

Requirements :

Must be at least 25 years of age or older.

Registered Nurse (RN) or License Practical Nurse (LPN), with a license as required by the state of Texas.

Current certification in CPR and First Aid and Personal Safety from the American Red Cross.

Certified to dispense medication : 1-year minimum experience

Experience in first aid and emergency management.

Have and maintain a valid TX driver’s license, and acceptable driving record, acceptable insurance, and reliable transportation.

Successful completion of a criminal background check.

Ability to reside at the camp property for the duration of the camp season and occasionally live in non-air-conditioned spaces with other staff members.

Must be able to attend and reside at the camp property during training sessions from May 27 - 30 and June 2 - 6, 2025.

Must be able to work and reside at the camp property during the entire camp session from June 8th - July 25th, 2025 from 10 : 00 am Sunday morning until 6 : 00 pm the following Friday evening. Staff may stay on camp property over the weekend if necessary. (Camp will not be in session July 3-4, 2025).

This position performs its duties indoors and in outdoor weather conditions. This position is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, requiring a tolerance to work in hot summer conditions. Not all sleeping arrangements will be climate controlled.

Experience in both child and adult illness / injury care.

Desire to work with children and young adults.

Community health knowledge.

Ability to maintain written record system.

Ability to communicate with parents, staff, and administration about camper health concerns.

Possess endurance to meet emergency needs.

Ability to drive to off-camp site to health provider, physician, or emergency treatment locations.

Work Environment :

Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering camp programs.

Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat.

General Information :

GSSWT provides applicable trainings and certifications for hired staff.

All meals and housing arrangements are covered by GSSWT for Overnight Camp positions.

Compensation : $720 per week

Location : Utopia, TX 78884

All staff are considered role models to all campers at GSSWT overnight camps and are expected to participate in camp activities such as all evening camp activities, meals in the lodge, evening camper supervision, and camp check in and check out.

If selected for hire, a minimum of 3 references will be requested.
