Position Summary
The New Troop and Recruitment Specialist supports the Council's efforts in expanding opportunities for Girl Scouts to participate in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience through the support of effective recruitment strategies and the establishment and intentional support of new troops and troop leaders.
Reporting to and working with the Regional Volunteer Engagement Coordinator in collaboration with other key department leads, the Specialist will work to increase awareness and participation in Girl Scouting through a variety of in-person meetings, presentations, and networking opportunities with community organizations, corporations, schools, educators, faith-based institutions and other community constituents. They are responsible for securing youth and adult volunteer participation and community partnerships through community cultivation, lead generation and follow-up to achieve GSCB membership goals.
This role will also provide support, mentoring, training, leadership development, and Girl Scout programming support for all first-year troops. The New Troop and Recruitment Specialist supports the Troop Co-Leaders by recruiting caregiver and adult volunteers to support the goals of the troop and increasing caregiver engagement, coaches new volunteers on best practices regarding troop management, meeting planning, and educational and fun G.I.R.L. experiences. The New Troop and Recruitment Specialist, with a passion for Girl Scouts and leadership development, is responsible for increasing first-year youth and adult membership recruitment and retention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in achieving the Council's goals for youth and adult membership through implementing membership strategies in assigned areas of responsibility that generates and results in increased youth and adult volunteer leads.
- Designs and implements a comprehensive plan for youth and adult membership growth in targeted areas of responsibility by utilizing the opportunity catalog, researching market data, membership trends, and other pertinent information relevant to designated geographic areas.
- Prepares action plans and schedules to identify specific targets and to project the number of contacts to be made in order to meet membership goal. Monitors status reports of lead results to ensure goals are achieved.
- Promotes Girl Scouts to youth, families, volunteers and cultivates relationships with appropriate community leaders, organizations, and businesses to support recruitment efforts within targeted areas, to positively impact membership growth.
- Supports all first-year or new troops by creating annual calendar templates, co-leader trainings, caregiver engagement strategies, and providing programming in line with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to members of a newly established troop for a defined period, typically up to 4 meetings or through the first year of the troop.
- Secures caregiver participation in troop leadership roles including Troop Co-Leaders, Troop Support Volunteers, and Troop Bank Account Signors, ensuring the successful completion of membership registration and screening.
- Partner with and coach caregiver volunteers in delivering a startup program providing mentoring and coaching in troop leadership roles including troop management, meeting planning, and instruction on providing educational and fun Girl Scouting experiences.
- Utilize Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay's customer relationship management system (i.e. Salesforce) to support pursuance of qualified leads throughout the recruitment and conversion processes, as well as for the purposes of promoting troops in the Opportunity Catalog
- Provides excellent customer support and follow-up with members as assigned, by problem solving, managing, and responding appropriately to all inquiries.
- Ensures Girl Scouts welcomes all youth members and adults by embodying the Girl Scout way of diversity and inclusiveness.
