Camp Farnsworth is our overnight camp located in Thetford, VT on over 240 acres of beautiful, tranquil forest, meadows, fields and a 50-acre lake. Our property includes playing fields, lakefront, rec hall, health center, woodworking shop, pottery building, arts & crafts center, challenge course, climbing tower, a newly renovated dining hall, and our new pool and bunkhouse.
The Health Supervisor is responsible for the health and safety of all campers and staff. She is responsible for interpreting, practicing, and enforcing all health and safety policies and procedures.
Major Accountabilities:
1. Ensure that the Girl Scout mission, vision and program goals are carried out.
2. Responsible for implementing the GSGWM Health Care Plan, following Physicians Standing Orders.
3. Complies with American Camp Association (ACA) standards, state regulations and Girl Scout standards.
4. Gives first aid and nursing care in all cases of illness and accident as directed by physician. Calls physician when necessary. Contacts parents as directed in GSGWM health care plan and as directed by the Camp Supervisor.
5. Collects and reviews all camper medical information and prepares health information. Contacts families for more information or missing/incomplete records.
6. Checks in all campers and staff and updates records as needed.
7. Maintains all records required. Maintains accurate medication and treatment records.
8. Organizes and administers medications to staff and campers; plans for trips and ensures campers and staff have meds as needed.
9. Ensures all medications (prescribed and OTC) are locked and not accessible to campers.
10. Share specific camper needs with staff, kitchen, and program areas ahead of the first day of camp; updates after check in.
11. Completes all accident reports and insurance reports in a timely manner.
12. Educates staff and campers in emergency prevention, sanitation, and general health and safety.
13. Prepares first aid kits for units, program areas, vehicles, trips and other areas as needed.
14. Inspects camp (kitchen, units, program areas) daily for safety and sanitary hazards.
15. Assists in planning and conducts pre-camp training and ongoing in-service training.
16. Serves as a member of the Camp Core Team and Crisis Team.
17. Is always a role model for staff and campers as to appropriate actions, words and conflict resolution.
18. Performs other duties as assigned which may include unit or administrative responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Licensed WFA/EMT/RN/LPN; with state qualification as required.
- Minimum age 18; 21 or over preferred.
· Acceptance of the Girl Scout Promise and Law and if you are not already a member we encourage you to become a member of Girl Scouts of the USA.
- A valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Current First Aid/CPR, or equivalent.
Essential Skills:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interpret and carry out health care plan and standing orders.
- Ability to use good judgment regarding health, safety and personnel
· Ability to respond immediately and with calmness and with good judgment to all emergency situations.
· Ability to communicate quickly and efficiently with staff members and campers.
· Ability to participate in a strenuous camp program with the campers, while maintaining a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
- Adheres to, and ability to carry out, all personnel policies and camp procedures.
Compensation:
