The Kitchen Program Specialist at Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) is vital to maintaining a functional camp kitchen program year-round at Camp River Ranch, located in Carnation, WA. This role will enhance the GSWW camp experience through prompt and high-quality food preparation and menu planning, food packing/delivery for meal kits, collaboration with camp guests, and flexible assistance as necessary for food and non-food based programming, Strong organizational skills are a large component of this position, with the ability to interface with both internal and external customers with positivity and competence.
This is an on-site regular, full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt role with the requirement of residency in Washington State, preferably within reasonable proximity to worksite in Carnation, WA. While the full pay range for this position is $23.77 to $25.69, it will start at $23.77 per hour to maintain internal pay equity.

Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees all aspects of the camp dining experience, including menu planning, ordering, preparation, cooking, and meal kit creation for groups of various size, including but not limited to special weekend events and programs (150-200 guests on average for 2-4 days at a time)
- Ensures the health and safety of all guests, including campers, staff and other visitors, by following appropriate requirements for safe food preparation and food storage standards
- Budget management for the camp kitchen program and food service needs, including invoice oversight
- Ensures the kitchen, dining area, food storage areas, and equipment are maintained in good working order, and are clean and ready for use at all times.
- Provides training and support to volunteers and seasonal camp staff as related to the kitchen program.
- Maintains effective working relationships with staff and creating harmonious relationships with campers, parents, and staff while overseeing kitchen operations
- Participates in camp life, including but not limited to assisting with non-kitchen activities, campfire, staff training, meetings, and camp cleaning as needed
- Promotes and support Girl Scout program philosophies of GSUSA and GSWW

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to create menus compliant with National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and Washington State School standards
- Ability to bend, lift and carry at least 50 pounds, with physical stamina to work throughout camp, which includes walking over unpaved, uneven, hilly terrain multiple times a day
- Ability to perform essential duties and responsibilities as assigned in a fast-paced environment in both indoor and outdoor settings with frequent exposure to loud noises, sensory stimulating situations, and physically demanding activities, including working long hours on feet as needed
- Proven ability to exercise good judgment in anticipating and preventing accidents, risk management and effectiveness in emergency situations
- Proven ability to work well with provide support to volunteers and staff
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision
- Ability to drive a golf cart and camp vehicle to deliver meal kit resources, do shopping runs and respond quickly to guest needs
- Demonstrated emotional resiliency and regulation to handle extended, repeated stressful situations appropriately
- Responding to emergencies to administer First Aid/CPR when necessary
- Maintains constant oversight and observation of program participants while assessing risk and participant safety
- Ability and comfort driving a 12-passenger van when needed
- Ability to receive instruction and supervision
Supervisory Responsibilities
While this position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, it does provide oversight and scheduling of camp staff and volunteers helping in supporting roles as needed for camp meal preparation, meal service and meal kit delivery.
Education and Experience Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in commercial kitchen and/or quantity cooking
Other Required Qualifications:
- 21 years of age by start date
- GSWW Quantity Cook Training or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire
- ServSafe Certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Washington State Food Worker Card or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain through GSWW within 90 days of hire
- Must reside within GSWW Council region of Western Washington, with preference for residence in reasonable proximity to worksite in Carnation, WA
- Must be available to work in a camp setting with a variable work week and potentially long hours, including early mornings, weekends, and evenings.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License, proof of insurance, vehicle in working condition and the ability to fulfill travel requirements throughout Western Washington on an as needed basis
- Satisfactory results from a criminal background check
- Willingness to maintain Girl Scout membership
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Previous experience working in a Girl Scout and/or camp settings
- Previous experience providing oversight of staff and/or volunteers in a commercial kitchen or quantity cooking setting preferred but not required
- Previous food delivery experience and/or experience in transporting food safely while keeping time in the temperature danger zone minimized
- Previous experience in menu planning and food ordering
