Position Summary

Plan, direct and supervise the camp’s waterfront program. Maintain and enforce safe waterfront practices and adherence to state, American Camp Association and Girl Scouts of the USA waterfront procedures. Uphold all policy, procedures, and safety standards for the well being of staff and campers and be an active participant in campers’ experience and camp community. This seasonal full-time position is needed at Camp Alice Chester in East Troy, WI from May 2025 through August 2025.

What You’ll Do

  • Supervise and schedule the lifeguard staff.
  • Manage the camp’s two waterfronts and waterfront activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all state, American Camp Association and GSUSA waterfront procedures.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the health and safety of campers.
  • Provide administrative oversight and support to overall camp functions.
  • Prepare and conduct pre-camp and in-service staff trainings.
  • Supervise and evaluate lifeguard staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Conduct initial and end-of season inventories of all equipment and supplies and safe storage at the end of the summer.
  • Set up waterfront area during staff training and take down waterfront at end of camp season.
  • Enforce expectations for swim tests and boating.
  • Teach and monitor proper use of equipment.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and promote a sense of responsibility toward the waterfronts site.
  • Ensure daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Plan and work with others to coordinate waterfront activities which include swimming and boating.
  • Ability to adjust quickly when scheduled activities need to change and/or are no longer able to be done.
  • Comprehend, monitor and be willing to initiate crisis management plan and overall safety guidelines, including emergency procedures.
  • Prepare, review, and submit records and requested reports on time.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and daily cleaning of Camp.
  • Participate in the upkeep and cleaning of camp and units daily.
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and creative.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Training and experience in waterfront activities and management.
  • Ability to lift 40lbs.
  • Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard or certification from another organization having equal standards; Lake Certification is preferred, or willingness to be trained.
  • Current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid preferred; or willingness to be trained.
  • Small watercraft experience (kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding) preferred.
  • Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
  • Comfort and ability to live, sleep, and work in a rustic outdoor environment with irregular hours.
  • Physical demands and work environment regularly requires the employee to walk, hike, and work outdoors in wooded areas and?as well as?inclement?weather and extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to lift 40lbs.
  • Willingness to subscribe to the philosophy of the Girl Scout program and enroll as a Girl Scout member.
  • Commitment to creating and maintaining a positive, fun, and professional environment.
  • Effectively and respectfully communicate instructions, issues, and needs with campers, staff, and supervisors.
  • Uphold and respect camp and Girl Scout traditions.
  • Willingness to be an active member of camp and all camp activities.
  • Must have background check completed by GSWISE.
