Assistant Camp Director - Overnight Camp
Girl Scouts San Diego is seeking an Assistant Camp Director for overnight camp,who has a love for the outdoors and passion for inspiring the next generation of girls to build their courage, confidence and character, through the summer camp experience.
Girl Scouts San Diego has two overnight camps located in beautiful Julian, CA, approximately 62 miles from downtown San Diego. The overnight camps focus on providing a stand-out girl-led experience for campers of all ages and communities including a variety of specialty activities such as high ropes challenge course, horseback riding, swimming, and archery.
- Camp Winacka is a traditional rustic camp covering 625 acres of varying terrain in the Cuyamaca Mountains with two small lakes and cabin and rustic camping facilities
- Camp Whispering Oaks is a more modern camp, covering 58 acres of varying terrain in the Cuyamaca Mountains, with cabin and tent camping facilities.
The Assistant Camp Directo r is responsible for assisting in the implementation, management and supervision of the day-to-day camp operations, and delivery of program activities and events. Responsible for the operation of camp in the absence of the camp director.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist in the planning, implementation and management of camp operations, schedules, programming, activities, events and logistics.In conjunction with the camp director, supervise and manage camp staff and campers.Assist in the coordination, preparation and delivery of staff training plans and topics.Review and respond to parent / guardian / caregiver email and phone inquiries in a timely manner, providing exceptional customer service and handling sensitive and escalated matters.Assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of camp programs, activities, or procedures and staff performance and recommend improvements where necessary.Build, maintain and model professional, caring, and supportive work relationships with staff, campers, and volunteers.Facilitate and maintain open and clear communications to address and resolve conflicts and other issues.Attend staff meetings, trainings and assist in the setup and closure of summer camp facility and all program areaAdhere to and ensure staff and camper compliance with camp health and safety policies and procedures, emergency requirements, and ACA accreditation standards.Assist in the management of camp budget and financial resources.Serve as a counselor or specialist or facilitate programming when substitutes or additional staff are needed.Actively participate in camp activities and events.Perform other duties as assigned to meet council and camp goals and objectives.At least 21 years of age.Experience working in a youth camp, school, recreation or related environment; supervisory experience in a youth environment, desired.Ability to commit to and work the entire camp season, attend all pre-camp trainings, and live onsite in a camp setting.Current CPR / First Aid certification.Certification(s) in archery, challenge course, or lifeguarding, is highly desired.Ability to build and maintain positive collaborative working relationships with staff, campers, volunteers, and guests. Must be flexible and able to work well in a team environment.Ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, work in a professional manner in a youth-focused environment. Ability to be discreet and handle sensitive / confidential information in a responsible manner.Willingness to take on any necessary roles and responsibilities to meet camp goals and objectives.Exceptional communication skills and ability to handle and resolve conflict and issues, with diplomacy and tact.Ability and willingness to work outside in all weather conditions, walk long distances at various grades / elevations, and on uneven terrain, and lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.Ability to drive; valid driver's license, proof of insurance and access to reliable transportation.Belief and support of the mission and values of Girl Scouting; be willing to subscribe to the principles expressed in the Promise and Law and GSSD mission, vision, and values.Ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid or in an emergency (i.e. fire, evacuation, illness or injury).The dates of employment for this seasonal position : June 2 - July 27, 2025.
Payrate : $143 per day
