Role Description:
Join our lifeguard team at Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska to have a fun and meaningful summer! We provide supervision for day campers, resident campers, troops, and renters. We ensure a safe environment in keeping with the American Camp Association standards, Girl Scouts Safety Activity Checkpoints and Red Cross requirements. We are hiring lifeguards for our camps in Papillion and Nebraska City.
Staff Training:
Must obtain lifeguard training before June 1
May 27-30 – General Camp Training
Inservice Dates – TBD
Dates:
May 27-30 (required) – General Camp Training
Weekdays June-July
Some weekends required
Expected Hours: 20-40 per week
Key Accountabilities:
· Have current lifeguard certification, or willingness to obtain one
· Supervise and guard all pool activities, enforce pool rules, respond appropriately to weather/water conditions, and provide rescues as needed
· Assist with the opening and closing of the pool daily
· Meet each group to go over rules and safety items together
· Perform swim tests and clarify swimming abilities of campers
· Maintain clear and positive communication with all pool users
· Carry out pool duties as assigned by the lifeguard manager including vacuuming and cleaning pool area and locker rooms
· Help care for the use of all equipment, complete pool chores, and report needed repairs to the lifeguard manager
· Observe all safety precautions and comply with all health and safety rules and procedures
· Adhere to all council policies and procedures
· Attend required meetings, in-services, and trainings
· Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
· Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
· Current Lifeguard certificate from the American Red Cross or ability to obtain
· Be a member or be willing to become a member of the Girl Scouts, support the principles of Girl Scouting
· Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Girl Scouts policy
· Must be willing and able to work in an outdoor setting
· Good judge in anticipating and preventing accidents, quickness in emergencies, flexibility, recognize limitations and problem-solving capabilities
· Ability to monitor quality of a swimming pool
· Ability to handle near-drowning, hypothermia and basic first aid
· Good physical health, have abundant energy, a positive attitude and good character
· Ability to work independently and exercise time management skills as well as good judgment
· Ability to work and communicate effectively with girls of all age levels, parents, volunteers, staff and diverse communities
· Must pass a criminal background check Ability to bend, lift and carry up to 40 pounds
· Willingness to work irregular hours
· Must have transportation to and from camp location
