Camp Maha Description:
Camp Maha is one of Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska properties where girls in grades K-8 could participate in outdoor activities, which include, but are not limited to: archery, hiking, swimming, arts, crafts, challenge course and Girl Scout curriculum (including earning badges). Camp Maha is located on the Platte River near Papillion, NE. Many of Camp Maha’s campers ride buses into camp daily from the Omaha metro area.
Role Description:
The Camp Maha Assistant Director provides leadership that ensures that Girl Scout Spirit of Nebraska Mission. The Day Assistant Camp Director ensures an effective and safe camp experience by giving direction and guidance to day camp staff and volunteers. They display personal pride in their work, a positive work ethic and have a proactive, positive and enthusiastic approach to change. They are responsible for implementing and directing camp programs that drive our mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place! The Assistant Camp Director supports the Camp Director.
Staff Training:
· The Assistant Camp Director will need Basic Outdoor Training if needed, this will be scheduled for a Saturday in May.
· The Camp Director will be expected to participate in (1-3) pre-camp meetings in May. These will be scheduled for evenings or weekends according to availability.
· All Camp Staff Training: May 27-30, 2025 (First Aid and CPR training will be provided for those needing certifications).
Camp Maha Dates:
The Assistant Director should plan to be present for the following camp dates.
(3-4 staff will rotate staying overnight on Thursdays. Only the weeks with * have a family night and overnight on Thursday.)

Pay: $14.50 -15 per hour; additional $25 per overnight (occasional Thursday nights)
Key Accountabilities:
1. Assist in the supervision of all Camp staff and volunteers by providing training, direction, guidance, feedback, correction and evaluation of staff.
2. Assist Camp Manager in pre-camp training, planning, preparation and site-specific training.
3. Coordinate with the Camp Manager to organize, order, store and inventory program supplies and equipment during and after summer camp season.
4. Maintain accurate rosters of resident camp participation, and health records. Maintain confidentiality and serve as key contact with parents.
5. Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver programs, special events and all other resident camp activities and functions.
6. Develop sound relationships with all girl participants, their parents and Council staff to ensure a positive camp experience.
7. Maintain a safe and clean environment. Work with property managers to identify and correct maintenance problems promptly and efficiently.
8. Make sure that Thursday nights are fully staffed and be willing to spend the night on Thursdays.
Qualifications:
· Be a member or be willing to become a member of the Girl Scouts, support the principles of Girl Scouting.
· Demonstrated experience and knowledge of resident camp management.
· Be aware of and able to effectively handle personnel problems, health and safety procedures and emergency situations.
· Ability to handle stress effectively and know when to seek guidance and support.
· Ability to work and communicate effectively with girls of all age levels, parents, volunteers, staff and diverse communities.
· Demonstrate leadership and organizational skills, initiative, creativity and flexibility, including the ability to evaluate and make changes as necessary to ensure a successful camp experience.
· Ability to work independently and exercise time management skills as well as good judgment.
· Willingness to work irregular hours.
· Ability to bend, lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Girl Scouts policy. Access to reliable transportation. Daily and/or occasional travel may be required.
