Position Summary
The Camp Counselor participates in the implementation of Girl Scout programming, ensures safety of the campers, and encourages the success of every camper. Camp Counselors are the primary caregivers for campers during camp. The Camp Counselor is responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, carrying out activities, and guiding campers in their personal growth. The position is also responsible for implementation of high-quality climbing wall, low ropes and / or archery programming.
El Ranchito Day Camp
Tucked away in the charming suburbs of Long Beach, El Ranchito is a tree-lined high adventure day camp, where campers are encouraged to take safe risks that boost bravery and promote goal setting. Exciting, confidence-building outdoor activities include archery, low ropes, and a 32-foot climbing tower.
The camp operates with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers throughout the camp to meet the intended camper outcomes.
Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities.
Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs.
Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
Attend and participate in daily meetings.
Set up and break down climbing wall, low ropes and / or archery range in orderly fashion including the maintenance of accurate inventories of supplies and equipment.
