Position Overview
Girls Inc. of Greater Miami is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to lead our pilot After-School Debate Club for middle school students. This program aims to engage students in critical thinking, public speaking, and structured discussions on age-appropriate topics. The Debate Coach will play a key role in creating a supportive environment where students develop confidence, articulate their ideas, and respect diverse perspectives. As this is a pilot program, the Coach will have an exciting opportunity to help shape its structure and approach while gathering insights for future development. Responsibilities
- Program Delivery: Facilitate engaging and interactive debate sessions, ensuring activities are inclusive, dynamic, and age-appropriate.
- Curriculum Delivery: Work with a pre-designed curriculum while having the autonomy to adapt and enhance it based on student needs, interests, and emerging themes.
- Skill Development: Teach students foundational debate skills, including argument structure, public speaking, and research techniques.
- Student Engagement: Encourage participation and foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative learning environment.
- Logistics and Preparation: Ensure materials and resources are ready for each session, including debate prompts, visual aids, and evaluation tools. Specific hours will vary based on the school site.
- Communication: Maintain regular communication with site staff, families, and the Program Director regarding program updates, challenges, and successes.
Qualifications
- Passion for working with middle school girls and a commitment to fostering their growth.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills, particularly with youth audiences.
- Ability to create an inclusive, supportive, and stimulating environment for diverse learners.
- Background or interest in public speaking, debate, or education is a plus but not required.
- Availability during after-school hours (specific hours will vary based on the school site).
