POSITION: Mental Health Support Position
EMPLOYED BY: CEO
RESPONSIBLE TO: CEO and Director of Operations
PURPOSE: To provide mental health support to youth of all ages through programming, individualized meetings, and skills-based groups as well as meeting the overall needs of the youth within the center.
STATUS: Hourly, Non-exempt, PT
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, or other related fields with experience. (Candidates in active pursuit of one of these degrees will be considered.)
Masters in social work or other related fields preferred.
Experience with youth in a professional setting preferred.
Training in Social Emotional Learning or Mental Health preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The key role of the mental health advocate will be to provide the youth with mental health-related and social-emotional programming, support, skills-based groups, and activities based on the youth’s needs both on-site and through in-school outreach.
Programming
- Facilitate mental health and social-emotional programming throughout the school year and summer camp
- Research appropriate curriculum and activities to facilitate to the youth based on the needs within the center
- Determine the duration of the programming
- Provide the program staff with appropriate programming based on the needs of the center
- Collaborate with the Director of Operations and the staff to understand the youth’s needs and facilitate programming as needed
- Act as a substitute for the program staff in their absence or if needed
Small Groups
- Create and conduct small skills-based groups with the youth based on their needs
- Research appropriate curriculum and activities to facilitate the small skills-based groups based on the needs within the center
- Determine the duration of the small skills-based groups
- Collaborate with the Director of Operations and program staff to determine the youth that will participate in the small skills-based groups
Individualized Meetings with Youth
- Meet one-on-one with the youth based on need
- Adhere to the policies outlined in the Code of Ethics related to the field of degree
- Documentation is required when meeting with the youth
- Adhere to the policies outlined in the Girls Incorporated employee handbook and organizational policies
- Must practice confidentiality
- Research and determine appropriate curriculum and activities when working individually with the youth
- Mandated reporter of abuse within the State of Indiana
Technology/Communication
- Research and determine appropriate online resources to utilize when working with the youth
- Research training opportunities to enhance knowledge of working with the youth and stay up to date with certifications
- Provide training to the staff within the center
- Communicate with the Director of Operations and the staff consistently about any pertinent information with the youth
- Communicate with parents of the youth based on the need and severity of the situation with the youth
- Document any communication with the youth, parents, outside agencies, reporting, and pertinent conversations
- Utilize confidentiality when communicating with the youth, staff, and parents unless the situation needs to be reported
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Refer the youth and families to appropriate community-based services based on need
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 30 per week

- Weekends as needed
