Originally founded as The Girls Club of Columbus, Girls Inc. has educated and empowered girls for more than 64 years. Today, we provide after-school and full day summer programs, along with a year-round sports program. Our $1.4 million organization annually serves a diverse group of more than 1,500 girls, ages 6 to 18, in a physically and emotionally safe, girls-only environment, providing comprehensive, holistic programming that helps them gain confidence and build academic and leadership skills for success in the 21st century.
Job description
Seeking a qualified Custodian interested in joining our Girls Inc family. The Custodian is responsible for the overall upkeep and cleanliness of the building’s common areas, offices, bathrooms, breakrooms, hallways, and classrooms. Under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Custodian maintains a clean and sanitized environment for students and staff.
Principal Responsibilities
- Maintain and clean all floor surfaces, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
- Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment
- Clean, monitor, and maintain restrooms
- Empty trash cans for proper disposal
- Clean windows and mirrors using appropriate cleaners and equipment
- Spot clean carpets and assist in carpet extractions and shampooing
- Replenish paper products and sanitary supplies.
- Follow housekeeping schedule
- Occasionally use heavy cleaning equipment, such as floor scrubbers, vacuums, and buffers.
- Other duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Proven experience in a janitorial role
- Knowledge of general cleaning processes and methods
- Working knowledge of tools and chemicals related to cleaning and maintenance
- Knowledge of floor stripping, waxing, and maintenance
- Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to take direction and work with minimal direct supervision
- Professional demeanor and positive attitude
- Flexibility and willingness to adapt

Conditions of Employment
Employment by Girls Inc. for all positions is contingent upon successfully passing a criminal background check, including a sex offender check, as well as a pre-employment drug screening and a review of Department of Motor Vehicles records as required and allowable by law. Employees hired for positions requiring a valid driver’s license must be continuously insurable under the Girls Inc. insurance policy throughout their employment period.

Requirements:- At least one year of janitorial experience
- High school diploma
- Good physical condition
- Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
- Must be able to work at heights of 30 feet or more on ladders and lifts
- Must have a valid driver’s license, clean MVR, pass a drug test and a criminal background check
